It’s the 50th Anniversary of the Children of the Atom. The X-Men mean so much to so many fans. Uncanny X-Men #116 was my first comic book and I’ve been addicted ever since. And on my birthday this new comic book Wednesday I get to enjoy X-Men: Gold #1 which includes a brand new story by Chris Claremont, the gifted writer who crafted that first comic book and guided the mutants to greatness for more than a decade.
“Over the last 50 years, the X-Men have changed people’s lives, myself included.” Says X-Men Senior Editor Nick Lowe told Marvel.com.
“Through Cyclops, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Kitty Pryde and the rest of the X-Men, the creators of these merry mutants taught us that it’s not only okay to be different, but that difference is to be celebrated! To honor the characters and the creators we wanted to do something special…hence X-MEN: GOLD!”
X-MEN: GOLD #1 will feature an all-new, feature length story by legendary writer Claremont and artist Bob McLeod. This will be an untold, in-continuity story of the X-Men featuring Cyclops, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Kitty Pryde, and Rogue.
The milestone issue includes stories from all-star creators from the astonishing history of Marvel’s Mutants – including the first new X-Men story from Stan Lee in years. Louise and Walt Simonson will have new tale of the original X-Men. Favorite X-creators Len Wein, Jorge Molina, Fabian, Niceza, Salvador Larroca, Roy Thomas and Pat Olliffe contribute new stories set in key parts of mutant history.
The X-Men are action packed stories but there’s always something more about them. The mutants don’t just fight bad guys but fight against discrimination and intolerance. I’ve read along with so many creative teams starting with Claremont and John Byrne so this will be an incredible opportunity to enjoy the X-Men history and the work of some of the greatest creators in the business.
X-Men: Gold #1 comes out on my birthday! Thanks, Marvel
