A shocking death of an Avenger.

What will the aftermath mean to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and the Marvel Universe?

Writer Greg Pak is charged with telling that story as he helps say goodbye to an iconic character.

We shared our thoughts on the death of this hero and what they meant to us.

How will Pak remember a character that’s been a huge part of his comics career?

The cover may give it away but we want to still offer a spoiler alert just in case you have not ready Civil War II #3.

Seriously.

OK.

Here it comes.

Dearly beloved fans, we are gathered here to mourn and honor a founding Avenger and iconic hero:

Bruce Banner, The Incredible Hulk.

In Civil War II: The Fallen, Pak and Mark Bagley will show us the funeral for Bruce Banner. Pak confirmed Tony Stark and Carol Danvers (leaders on opposite sides of the current Civil War), Doctor Strange, Ben Grimm, Hercules and Silver Surfer will be attending the ceremony.

Pak says fans will learn how the Hulk’s extended family including Skaar, The Warbound, Rick Jones, Betty and Amadeus Cho will be impacted by the Hulk’s death.

From Planet Hulk to World War Hulk to Skaar, Son of Hulk, Pak is a huge contributor to the modern Hulk canon and new cast of characters in Banner’s world.

I wanted to share his thoughts on the icon:

“Bruce Banner’s been my favorite Marvel legacy character to write over my 11 years in comics. So I loved writing this part of the story because it’s another huge chance to delve deep into what kind of person and hero Banner really is. One of the contradictions I love about Banner is that as The Hulk, he always said he just wanted to be left alone. But over the years, he built a big extended family for whom he’d do anything. The Hulk has correctly been defined by his central theme of anger. But after writing Bruce Banner stories for all these years, I’d say that Banner is driven first and foremost by love. That’s the core of this book, and it plays out big time in the reading of the will. There are tons of surprises in there—some funny, some deeply emotional, some setting up some critical plot elements for the future. You don’t wanna miss it!” Pak told Marvel.com.

Pak’s creation Amadeus Cho is now the Totally Awesome Hulk.

Civil War II: The Fallen arrives August 17th.
