“The GLAAD Media Awards recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives.”

It’s tough to pick a favorite among these great books. I was a champion for the soon to be ending Fearless Defenders. Dr. Annabelle Riggs was a lesbian scientist swooning for Valkyrie in Cullen Bunn’s fun book starring an all female team. Kate Kane revealed her superhero identity and proposed to her girlfriend Maggie Sawyer in Batwoman. Blackman and J.H. Williams left the title last year reportedly in part because they would not be allowed to write Kate and Maggie getting married.

I think I have go to with Young Avengers by writer Kieron Gillen and artist Jamie McKelvie. Even though Gillen broke up the team’s supercouple Teddy and Billy (aka Hulkling and Wiccan) it was how they were inclusive in a diverse, eclectic team. During Gillen’s run he introduced a bisexual Prodigy and hinted at Miss America Chavez being a lesbian.  The book won in 2006 written by Allan Heinberg with art by Jim Cheung.

Congratulations to all the nominees.

And here’s one book left off the list you should know about. Why this future X-Man’s coming out was a non-issue and why that was the point.
