Just when you thought you knew everything Jonathan Hickman plans for the new X-MEN era, it gets blown up to GIANT-SIZE!
Jean Grey and Emma Frost share a complicated history over Cyclops but the rivals must come together for a specific mission to help another iconic X-Woman.
Marvel announced Hickman will team up with artist Russell Dauterman for GIANT-SIZE X-MEN: JEAN GREY AND EMMA FROST #1. It’s not just a special, it’s the first issue of a new X-Men series launching in February. Hickman will team up with a different artist each issue to craft an epic new story in the DAWN OF X era.
In the debut issue telepaths and former rivals Jean and Emma will team up to rescue Storm.
Hickman recently wrote HOUSE OF X and POWERS OF X to set up the new status quo, launched a new X-MEN #1, will co-write a new NEW MUTANTS and oversee the X-Line (MARUDERS, X-FORCE, EXCALIBUR, FALLEN ANGELS, WOLVERINE)
Jean and Scott (Cyclops) are reunited and living together as husband and wife in a home base on the Blue Area of the moon as seen in X-MEN #1. Emma is the leader of the Hellfire Club and runs the Hellfire Trading Corporation (which distributes mutant produced medicines to nations who accepted treaties with the new mutant nation of Krakoa). Emma is in the cast of MARAUDERS.
Dauterman is best known for his work with THOR, specifically the Jane Foster era and WAR OF THE REALMS. Dauterman has been creating covers for MARAUDERS and variants including a recent X-MEN #1 cover featuring Jean Grey in all her past costumes and identities.
This announcement picks up a huge legacy. GIANT-SIZE X-MEN #1 introduced the All-New, All-Different X-Men (Storm, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Banshee, Thunderbird, Colossus) back in 1975.
The last GIANT-SIZE X-MEN was #4 by legendary Chris Claremont and artist Rick Leonardi in a lost tale starring the original Thunderbird.
GIANT-SIZE X-MEN: JEAN GREY & EMMA FROST arrives in February 2020.
