Robbie Reyes rides again into comic book shops in the Marvel Now.
After an invasion of Inhumans, the new season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be hell as Ghost Rider blazes into the missions of Team Coulson. But this is not the original Spirit of Vengeance.
Marvel Studios announced Gabriel Luna will play Robbie Reyes, the fourth person known as Ghost Rider.
Robbie will ride again in comics following his television debut.
Marvel announced All-New Ghost Rider #1 hits this November. Reyes co-creators (writer Felipe Smith, artist Tradd Moore) reunite for Robbie’s return. Artist Danilo Beyruth joins the book as regular artist. Moore will draw a back-up story in the first issue colored by Val Staples.
Adding the new hero to the cast was a surprise to fans but how did Robbie’s co-creator feel:
“I felt pretty pumped when I heard the announcement and was actually signing at another publisher’s booth when Marvel made the announcement at their SDCC display, unveiling Robbie’s Hell Charger. They invited me up onstage and introduced me to producers Jeffrey Bell, Maurissa Tancharoen, Jed Whedon, and Jeph Loeb—who gave me a shout-out in a TV interview; thanks!—and I also got to sit inside that beautiful black souped-up1969 Dodge Charger. The “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” crew really nailed it, getting all the specs just right! I didn’t get a chance to meet Gabriel Luna, who will be playing Robbie on the show, but I know he’s been reading our trades, studying up! I’m really looking forward to his performance!” Smith told Marvel.com.
For newer fans, this Reyes is bonded to the evil spirit of his Uncle Eli, a serial killer and satanist. While the original Ghost Rider rode a motorcycle, Reyes burns up the streets in a black car but still unleashes a flaming chain as a weapon and has the iconic flaming skull.
In the comics Robbie’s origin is tied to the drug dealing Mister Hyde, the father of Daisy/Quake. Could this mean Kyle MacLachlan is returning to the series?
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns September 20th at 10pm.
