After months of speculation and rumors about the direction of the reboot Fox unveiled the first trailer for the new Fantastic Four.
The upcoming film directed by Josh Trank is going for a more modern, grounded approach with an origin more inspired by the Ultimate Fantastic Four than the original Marvel’s First Family.
It appears Reed, Sue, Johnny, Ben and a possible fifth member of the team will gain their powers after an incident involving teleportation.
The trailer gave us a glimpse of what’s to come and makes us want to update villain visions for this reboot and beyond.
With a tale of teleporting this could be Fox’s attempt to venture into other corners of the Marvel Universe not associated with the Avengers (controlled by Marvel/Disney.)
Here are our updated villain visions for this new FF:
Frightful Four
Yes, an undead version of the team from the Marvel Zombies Universe! Yes, I’m serious. With decaying bodies but still brain power, this twisted Reed tricks his counterpart into opening the portal so his Four can feast on a new Earth and spread their super-virus among the population. Super-heroes vs. Zombies on the big screen!
Annhilus
Lord of the Negative Zone, this alien (Anthrosian) overlord of this anti-matter dimension has often lead invasions in our universe time and again. The villain led the Annihilation Wave, a fleet of Negative Zone warships, in a fight to conquer our world. We may see a glimpse of the infamous Negative Zone as Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben venture via teleportation and set up a sequel.
Super-Skrull
Kl’rt was chosen by the Emperor to land on Earth and destroy the FF. The reptilian race has the power to shapeshift but Kl’rt was bred to have all the powers of the FF. Who knows which studio (Fox or Marvel/Disney) has the cinematic rights to these aliens. If both studios could work it out – a Super-Skrull appearance could lead to an Avengers/FF team-up based on Secret Invasion when the Skrulls infiltrated every team and took over Earth.
Mole Man
I know the new movie is a modern take but why not bring on the first villain who started it all back in the first issue?
What’s so intimidating about this small guy with bad vision? How about his army of subterranean monsters and moloids who are devoted to him not to mention his genius intellect and radar senses.
When I first heard about a FF reboot I’d hope Fox would set in back in the Stan Lee/Jack Kirby era 1960’s but maybe this new foursome would jet back in time to become monster hunters.
Groot (Guardians of the Galaxy) started out as a Marvel monster so why not take inspiration from the old school monster comics and resurrect Giganto, the flying Skreeal and horned Megataur.
