Update: June 29th, 2015:

Here’s the link to news about the Extraordinary X-Men book by Jeff Lemire and Humberto Ramos you are looking for.

The story below is from last March when “extraordinary” was how the Marvel Editor-In-Chief described what’s next for the X-Men.

UPDATE: This story was updated after Marvel’s Editor-In-Chief clarified his comments here.

The Marvel Universe after Secret Wars is the great unknown for many of the publisher’s major franchises.

After seeing the All-New, All-Different Avengers and the Uncanny Inhumans lineups, fans are still wondering what about the mutants?

There’s been speculation and rumors over the future of the X-books. Brian Michael Bendis is leaving the franchise with Uncanny X-Men #600 in the same month as Secret Wars #1. While there are plenty of X-Men Battleworld books based on past events, what about the future?

Marvel Editor In Chief Axel Alonso gave us a hint at what’s to come for the Children of the Atom on Comic Book Resources weekly Axel-In-Charge feature after a fan’s question:

“The X-Men office is taking the opportunity of ‘Secret Wars’ to build an entire new world for the characters — to create a shared universe within the X-books that’s set off by a huge event/incident/surprise,” Alonso said. “At that point, they’re going to introduce a new team that feels unlike anything you’ve seen before. It’ll be… ‘extraordinary.'”

Does that mean a mutant universe separate from the main Marvel Universe? No more X-Men and Avengers team-ups, romances or interactions? No more moments like “No More Mutants” in which Avengers impact the mutant race?

Back in the 1990’s the X-books were cancelled and the Age of Apocalypse was born with new books in a new reality after Legion went back in time for a fateful encounter between Charles Xavier and Magneto. Beast is a prime suspect for reshaping the entire Marvel Universe because of his actions in Uncanny X-Men, New Avengers, Black Vortex but could Hank be responsible for a whole new mutant-verse? Oh his Stars and Garters – we’ll have to wait at least one more month to see.

Again: This story was updated after Marvel’s Editor-In-Chief clarified his comments about the X-Men here. Uncanny X-Men #600 has been delayed for release until after Secret Wars.
