The geek world starting buzzing (pardon the obvious pun) after Evangeline Lilly (Lost, The Hobbit) showed off her new hair style on Instagram.
Lilly is playing Hope Van Dyne in Marvel’s upcoming Ant-Man movie which started shooting in San Francisco this week.
In the film Hope is the daughter of original Ant-Man inventor Hank Pym (Michael Douglas.) Paul Rudd is playing Scott Lang, the second Ant-Man.
Marvel has not indicated if Hope will become a costume super hero but…Lilly’s new style is inspired by Wasp (aka Janet Van Dyne.)
Ant-Man and Wasp are one of Marvel’s most iconic super couples and founding members of The Avengers.
Now the Marvel Cinematic Universe is different from the comics. Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne were the original Ant-Man and Wasp who once married.
In the upcoming film, Hank is an older character with a daughter named Hope. Scott Lang (who was the second Ant-Man in comics) steals the Ant-Man technology and formula. Fans can assume Rudd and Lilly will be the center of a romance as well as the heist and fight against the bad guy: Darren Cross (Corey Stoll) who will become known as Yellowjacket. (Fun fact for fans who love Marvel movies but don’t read the comics: Yellowjacket is one of Hank Pym’s many code-names including Giant Man and Goliath.)
Lilly’s new cut inspires the return of the Friday Flashback!
Janet Van Dyne is famous for her fashion sense and ever-changing uniforms.
I had a double take at GeekGirlCon 2013 in Seattle – the third annual celebration of women in geek culture.
You have to admire the dedication of this cosplayer who worked not one but two looks for the hero they love.
I saluted this geek girl I met at GeekGirlCon. On Saturday she sported the Uncanny Avengers Wasp look complete with headpiece and visor seen here with a woman as Hawkeye the Avenging Archer!
This was my first ever Wasp cosplay sighting but then…
On Sunday she went with Jan’s style she sported in New Avengers. We both confessed our love for Janet and amazement that there are no plans for Jan to appear in a Marvel film or television series.
Come on she’s a FOUNDING AVENGER and was once Chairwoman of the team we cried!
Janet is smart, savvy, stylish and deserves some big screen attention or a guest appearance on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or maybe her own series?
Janet’s powers may enable her to shrink to small size as but she’s got big star power and potential.
We may not Janet Van Dyne but looks like we have a Wasp (Lilly’s Hope Van Dyne) joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe when Ant-Man hits theaters in July, 2015!
I hope I get to see this mighty Avenger cosplayer at GeekGirlCon 2014 October 11 and 12 at The Conference Center in Seattle so we can speculate on the cinematic future of the Wasp. And I can wait to see which Wasp look she rocks this con season!
Wasp (Janet Van Dyne) is currently starring in Uncanny Avengers and is in a relationship with Alex Summers (Havok) formerly of X-Men and X-Factor.
Stay tuned for updates on Wasp and Ant-Man!
