BAM! POW! The Dynamic Duo kicked off Emerald City Comicon with a geek-tacular event starring Adam West and Burt Ward! Fans packed Seattle Cinerama for a special screening of the first Batman feature film and to cheer for the stars of the classic television series. West was born in Seattle and raised in Walla Walla, Washington. The iconic actor and Burt Ward will appear at Emerald City Comicon 2013 all three days. This is West’s first public appearance in Washington state in nearly 20 years. This will be his first Northwest convention appearance in 3 decades.

The hometown crowd went wild as West and Ward entered Seattle’s iconic theater for the sold-out event. Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn proclaimed it “Mayor Adam West Day” in the Emerald City. West reflected about his time on ranch near Walla Walla “slopping hogs and milking cows.” Mornings at the local theater watching westerns and Flash Gordon serials made the young West think, “You know there must be a bigger world out there somewhere than taking care of these hogs!”

Burt Ward recalled his screen test and what he learned on the set from West. Both shared hilarious stories of costume adjustments and proving the critics wrong with their take on the Caped Crusader and Boy Wonder that won over loving fans.

That voice. That delivery. That style. Adam West and Burt Ward showed an adoring audience why they endure as pop icons. Every weekday I would rush home from school to watch Batman reruns in the afternoon. I watched the first Batman movie over and over. This big screen caper featured all the classic villains (Joker, Penguin, Catwoman and the Riddler.)

Adam West and Burt will always hold a special place in the hearts and memories of Batman and Robin fans. The campy classic series was the gateway to comic books for young geeks like me at the time. No matter how dark the Dark Knight turns there is always a special for in pop culture for West’s Caped Crusader and Ward’s Boy Wonder.

The pop culture icons delivered a Gotham Night to Remember in the Emerald City but the fun is just beginning! West and Ward will join a stellar roster of celebrities from comic book, science fiction, horror genres giving eager fans a chance at photos, autographs and reflections on the films and shows that make us all kids again. Emerald City Comicon takes over the entire Washington State Convention Center March 1-3, 2013 in Seattle.
