X-fans just got lucky!
Domino is getting her own comic book and Gail Simone is coming back to Marvel.
Just ahead of the mutant merc hitting the big screen in DEADPOOL 2, Marvel announced DOMINO, headlining first solo book by writer Gail Simone.
This marks a homecoming for Simone who once wrote DEADPOOL.
In the comics Domino’s real name is Neena Thurman. Domino’s mutant power is to alter probability – like a good luck power. Neena has enhanced reflexes and agility skilled in martial arts and marksmanship.
Here’s more details from the official presser:
“When Domino finds herself on the wrong side of the mercenary community, the favorite femme fatale has to fight back and, somehow, stay alive. Hunted by her enemies, a danger to her friends, and chased by the man who hates her more than anything, Domino will be up against the odds—but that’s never stopped her before.”
Domino first met Cable (the cyborg/mutant son of Cyclops from the future) in the mercenary group known as the Six Pack. When Cable joined the New Mutants and transformed them into X-Force, he recruited Domino. That Domino turned out to be a shapeshifter named Vanessa Carlyle aka Copycat who was secretly a spy for her boyfriend – Deadpool. Neena was actually a prisoner of the villain Tolliver (Cable’s evil son from the future) who tasked Deadpool with hunting Cable.
The real Domino was saved and later became a member of X-Force and X-Men lineups.
Here’s a big question:
Morena Baccarin played Wade Wilson’s girlfriend Vanessa in the first DEADPOOL film. She did not appear to have mutant powers. Zazie Beetz is playing Domino in DEADPOOL 2. Could filmmakers be pulling a Copycat like twist from the comics in the sequel?
DOMINO #1 arrives April 11th.
DEADPOOL 2 arrives June 1st.
