A fan-favorite bad girl from the X-Men is joining the Merc With a Mouth’s movie sequel.
Actor/Executive Ryan Reynolds announced via Twitter Zazie Beetz (Atlanta) will be playing Domino in Deadpool 2.
The star cleverly gave fans a double tweet reveal. First with dominoes spelling out the actress’s name with “Domino Effect” then showing the actress head shot on the comic book body of Domino, now starring in Deadpool and the Mercs for Money with “Zazie Beets Effect.”
Who is Domino?
In the comics Domino (Neena Thurman) is a mutant with probability-altering power. Domino uses her ability and lethal skills with weaponry as a mercenary. Domino first appeared with Cable (son of Cyclops from the future) as a member of his Six-Pack mercenary squad and later joined his team X-Force.
It was revealed Domino was being impersonated by a mutant shapeshifter code-name Copycat but real name Vanessa Carlyle. The impersonator was Deadpool’s girlfriend and impersonated the team on his orders. Morena Baccarin played Vanessa in the first film but didn’t display any mutant powers.
Domino has been romantically linked to Cable, Wolverine and Colossus and become an official X-Man member. Domino is currently starring in Deadpool and the Mercs for Money and will be part of the team in the upcoming Weapon X book.
The casting of Domino is a another big sign, Cable will appear in the sequel. Wade Wilson teased Cable’s appearance in the post-credit scene of the first film. Cable and Deadpool started out as rival mercenaries and enemies in comics but later starred in their own “buddy comic” together.
Deadpool 2 is scheduled for 2018.
