The Tenth Doctor lives on and lands in New York City in a brand new comic book series from Titan Comics. Set after Donna Noble’s tragic exit from the Tardis, the Doctor arrives in the big apple just in time for Halloween and the Mexican Day of the Dead festival.
The new mystery begins with a struggling Mexican-American family haunted by mysterious forces from literal ghosts in the machines to messages from portraits of lost loved ones.
One of the consistent themes of the new Doctor Who era is ordinary people suddenly caught up in extraordinary scenarios. It’s through their adventures with the Time Lord, we learn these everyday folks are truly extraordinary in how they face, overcome and inspire the Doctor. The creators take that element and transfer into this fun first issue.
I immediately liked Gabriella, a strong young woman working in her family’s restaurant and laundromat while going to school and dreaming of a better life for herself. I can see traits of Rose Tyler and Martha Jones in Gabriella. I’d like to think Rose, Martha and Donna would approve of the Doctor’s new companion.
As the eerie events getting scarier and bigger, the Doctor investigates leading to a demon train cliffhanger in Brooklyn. Writer Nick Abadzis and artist Elena Casagrand deliver a spot-on first issue capturing the spirit, mystery and fun of The Tenth Doctor’s adventures.
Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor #1 arrives Wednesday from Titan Comics.
