Holy casting capers! Who will play Dick Grayson on a new television series?
DC Comics announced Brenton Thwaites will play former Robin in the upcoming TITANS series.
Will the actor wear the iconic Robin costume or become Nightwing?
Thwaites has appeared “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” “Maleficent” “The Giver” and “Gods of Egypt.”
“Dick Grayson is one of the most important and iconic heroes in the DC universe, and it wasn’t easy to find him but we have,” says Titans Executive Producer Geoff Johns. “Brenton has the emotional depth, heart, danger and physical presence of Batman’s former protege and the Titans future leader. We’re extremely lucky he’s chosen to bring his talents to this project and this character.”
Grayson is described by the show as having once been Batman’s famous sidekick, Robin. After Dick’s parents were murdered during their high-flying circus act, Bruce Wayne became Dick’s legal guardian and trained him to fight crime beside him. But after years as part of the Dynamic Duo, Dick struggled to find his place outside the Dark Knight’s shadow. Finally striking out as his own man, he emerges as a leader, mentor and father figure to his new family, the Titans.
In the comics the Teen Titans eventually became known as the Titans. Dick Grayson kept the Robin identity but as the team evolved into the Titans he took the code-name Nightwing.
TITANS will air exclusively on DC’s upcoming direct-to-consumer digital service. The team will include Starfire, Raven and others. Anna Diop will play Starfire, real name Koriand’r, an alien who once fell in love with Dick. Teagan Croft will play Raven, a sorceress.
The comic book lineup also included Khttp://www.dccomics.com/blog/2017/08/03/breaking-news-titans-tv-show-gets-its-ravenid Flash, Beast Boy and Cyborg.
The show will be written by Akiva Goldsman, DC Entertainment President and Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns and Greg Berlanti (DCTV on The CW.)
