Will DC’s greatest mercenary target the Dark Knight and other heroes in the upcoming Justice League and Batman films?

Ben Affleck gave fans a Monday morning jolt with a Tweet showing what appeared to be test footage of the classic villain.

Deathstroke the Terminator in his ironic black and orange armor/uniform was hunting in what could be Gotham City in the scene.

Is Slade Wilson about to take on the biggest contract of his killer career and leap to the big screen?

According to The Wrap Deathstroke will be the main villain of Affleck’s Batman solo film. No official word from Warner Brothers on the character’s involvement in any film.

You may be asking…who is Deathstroke?

He may not be one of Batman’s classic rogues but this super villain is entwined across the DC Comics Universe.

Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke the Terminator is a ruthless mercenary/assassin with long-running rivalries with DC heroes including Batman and Green Arrow.

Deathstroke was created by the legendary team of Marv Wolfman and George Perez as the main antagonist of the New Teen Titans (including Dick Grayson – the original Robin now known as Nightwing.)

As a  young Army recruit, Wilson already showed incredible fighting, marksmanship and tactical skills then an experiment gave him enhanced physical powers.

Wilson’s children include Teen Titan traitor Jericho; Grant and Rose Wilson both used the code-name Ravager as they followed in their father’s deadly career footsteps.

Deathstroke’s popularity has soared and he’s starred in his own solo book and been a cast member of Suicide Squad.

Manu Bennett played Wilson on Arrow and the character has appeared in several animated films and video games.

If Deathstroke does join the DC Universe on the big screen it opens up huge possibilities including an opponent who could match the Dark Knight fist for fist and tactical chess.

Wilson’s ties to comics canon could lead to the introduction of Dick Grayson as Nightwing and the Titans, Green Arrow/Oliver Queen, spy organizations H.I.V.E. and Checkmate plus villain super teams like the Injustice League, Secret Society of Super Villains or reintroduce the League of Assassins (called Shadows in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy.)

Deathstroke #1 by Christopher Priest is on comic book shops now as part of the DC Rebirth initiative.
