The box-office blockbuster, genre busting smash Deadpool earns another honor for its star.
Ryan Reynolds is now a living legend among geeks for his long, strange journey as Wade Wilson.
Now the star of Deadpool is one of GQ’s Men of the Year 2016.
Man of the Year for mortals. A God to geeks.
Reynolds first played Reynolds in X-Men: Origins: Wolverine then blasted off as Green Lantern but fans always hoped for him to get back in black and red.
Test footage leaks and unwavering fan support led to a green light and the rest is cinema history.
In the upcoming Men of the Year issue Reynolds talks about the fight to get Deadpool made and why it made him a wreck.
“When it finally ended, I had a little bit of a nervous breakdown. I literally had the shakes,” Reynolds told GQ. “I went to go see a doctor because I felt like I was suffering from a neurological problem or something. And every doctor I saw said, ‘You have anxiety.’”
“I’ve been on the train for 11 years trying to get it made… Once the test footage leaked, that created a groundswell of support,” he says. “And the studio responded to that groundswell by saying, ‘Okay, here’s the absolute bare minimum amount of money that we will give this character. Let us know when the movie’s done.’”
Reynolds will return in a Deadpool sequel scheduled for 2018.

The 2016 GQ Men of the Year issue will be available on newsstands in New York and L.A on November 15 and nationwide on November 22.
