Wade Wilson and Remy LeBeau became instant bad boy fan-favorites when they leaped into the X-Men universe in the 1990’s.
Both rogues are headlining X-Men spinoff this year. Ryan Reynolds return in Deadpool smash box-office records. Channing Tatum is scheduled to play Gambit later this year.
Marvel will unleash Deadpool vs. Gambit: Wild Cards by writers Ben Acker and Ben Blacker and artist Danilo Beyruth.
What’s behind this showdown?
Deadpool may be an Uncanny Avenger now but he’s still a ruthless and deadly mercenary who quips as he kills. Gambit is a former X-Man, master thief and is infamous for his role in the Mutant Massacre that he kept secret from his teammates.
“Deadpool and Gambit aren’t ‘with great power comes great responsibility’ guys. They look out for number one.” Acker told Marvel.com.
“We had to zero in on the common theme of both a Gambit/Deadpool relationship and a con story,” Blacker added. “That theme is trust. Once we figured that out—that their working relationship is about how much and how far they trust each other—the writing became a lot of fun. We could layer all of the cool con stuff on top of that.”
Acker said fans will meet The Black Fox, a mystery man behind Remy and Wade’s schemes.
Deadpool vs. Gambit: Wild Cards arrives in June.
