David Tennant will shed his heroic Time Lord image to play an infamous Marvel villain an upcoming Netflix series.
Marvel announced the actor who played the Tenth Doctor Who has been cast as Zebediah Killgrave (aka The Purple Man) in A.K.A. Jessica Jones. The acclaimed actor is also known for Broadchurch and the U.S. version of the series Gracepoint.
Krysten Ritter is the title hero of the second of five Marvel Netflix series (Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Defenders.)
Jones is a former superhero turned private investigator. In comics Killgrave is a villain from her past with the power to hypnotize victims to his command via pheromones he emits from his skin. Killgrave is a master spy and manipulator. The purple skin and hair is due to a chemical accident.
“I’m so honored and excited by the prospect of David inhabiting this multifaceted character,” said Executive Producer/Show Runner Melissa Rosenberg. “He can deliver the most heart-wrenching moment to the driest of lines, and all points in between. He’ll make Kilgrave a truly original villain.”
Mike Colter is playing Luke Cage on the series.
The Purple Man made his first comic book appearance in Daredevil so it’s possible Tennant could appear in that Netflix series but no official word.
