Marvel Editor-In-Chief Axel Alonso shared some big announcements on Axel-In-Charge column in Comic Book Resources.
Daredevil: Dark Knights will be a new eight-issue anthology series starting in June with short serials by various creators start with a three-part story written and drawn by Lee Weeks.
Alonso shared why Daredevil is the right character for the anthology format.
“Part of it probably owes to the fact that Daredevil is, by far, the perfect crime noir superhero. The lone avenger patrolling his turf, squaring off against street-level villains, lends itself to a story that’s draped in shadows. Frank Miller recognized that when he redefined the character all those years ago and the crime noir tone he established carried through most of the best Daredevil stories ever since — Brian [Michael Bendis] and Alex [Maleev], Ed [Brubaker] and Michael [Lark]. But, as you can see from what Mark Waid and crew are doing right now, it’s possible to keep the “crime” in Daredevil, without so much of the “noir.”
Alonso revealed 3 artists joining 3 new Marvel books for upcoming arcs:
Mike Deodato joins New Avengers.
Stefano Casselli joins Avengers.
Sara Pichelli joins Guardians of the Galaxy.
I’m a big fan of Mark Waid’s Daredevil and thrilled to see Matt Murdock get his own anthology book. I was a big fan of Marvel Comics Presents which starred Wolverine in the lead along with two other serialized stories. Barry Windsor-Smith’s influential Weapon X story was published in this format.
