Cloak & Dagger #1 courtesy Marvel

Marvel shared a first look at Cloak & Dagger, the new Freeform television series based on the fan-favorite teen vigilante heroes.

Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) are two teenagers from different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers which are mysteriously linked to one another.
Tandy creates light daggers. Tyrone can engulf others in darkness.
Here’s how they look in the iconic first comic book.
But here’s the first look of the television versions of this beloved teen duo, their origin and how the television will be different.
Watch and enjoy:

In the comics these runaways were experimented on by a scientist trying to create a new synthetic drug for a major crime lord. The experiments gave them incredible powers. Tyrone gained powers of teleportation, a ghost-like intangibility and ability to access the “darkforce” dimension. To hide his new appearance he hid in a cloak. Tandy gained the ability to create “daggers” of light which could heal people and cure addictions. Their origins were later retconned to reveal Ty and Tandy were actually mutants like X-Men and the experiment triggered their mutant genes. The heroes first appeared in the pages of Spider-Man but got their own limited series and appeared in X-Men books. The duo were co-created by Bill Mantlo and Ed Hannigan.

Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger is the first project on the Freeform network with ten one-hour episodes scheduled to debut early 2018. The cast includes Holt, Joseph, Andrea Roth, Gloria Reuben, Miles Mussenden, Carl Lundstedt, James Saito and J.D. Evermore.
The series is co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios. Joe Pokaski is showrunner and executive producer. Gina Prince-Bythewood directed the first episode.
