Cloak & Dagger are getting their own television series.
The heroes will star in Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger with a straight to series order on Freeform according to Variety. The network (formerly ABC Family) is owned by Disney and is more geared toward a younger audience.
The article describes the series as “a superhero love story.”
In the comics Tyrone Johnson and Tandy Bowen were teen runaways from very different lives who met on the streets of New York City.
The runaways were experimented on by a scientist trying to create a new synthetic drug for a major crime lord. The experiments gave them incredible powers. Tyrone gained powers of teleportation, have a ghost-like intangibility and ability to access the “darkforce” dimension. To hide his new appearance he hid in a cloak. Tandy gained the ability to create “daggers” of light which could heal people and cure addictions. Their origins were later retconned to reveal Ty and Tandy were actually mutants like X-Men and the experiment triggered their mutant genes.
The heroes first appeared in the pages of Spider-Man but got their own limited series and appeared in X-Men books. The duo were co-created by Bill Mantlo and Ed Hannigan. The fan-favorite heroes have been currently appearing in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man.
No details of creative team or dates were revealed. This will be the first Marvel series on Freeform.
