CLARK KENT Revealed in SUPERMAN REBORN Twist

Action Comics #975 courtesy DC Comics

One Superman. Two Clark Kents?

A big mystery of DC Rebirth is revealed in a supersized milestone Action Comics #975.

The Man of Steel faces a rapid round robin of his most famous rogues as he confronts the “other” Clark Kent of Metropolis while searching for his son Jon.

The identity of the other Clark Kent is exposed but it inspires more burning questions

Superman Reborn Part Two by Dan Jurgens and Doug Mahnke picks up the action after the heartbreaking cliffhanger in last week’s Superman by Peter J. Tomasi and Patrick Gleason.

With DC Rebirth, the married Superman and Lois Lane are raising their Super Son (Jon Kent) in a small farm town while a mysterious other Clark Kent has been appearing in Metropolis in Action Comics.

The mystery man known as Mister Oz told the Man of Steel he knew the truth about them all. This mastermind is also kidnapping an unusual collection of heroes and villains as part of a master plan.

Think you know who the false Clark is? We were surprised. Read on but first…

Before we continue here’s a SPOILER ALERT!

If you have not read Superman Reborn Part One and this week’s Action Comics #975 stop reading now.

Seriously.

OK.

Here it comes.

One of Mr. Oz’s captives broke out of his cell. Soon a fire engulfed the Kent’s home. The fire didn’t burn – it erased Jon and the home from existence.

Superman and Lois soar to the Metropolis apartment of Clark Kent who teases the Man of Steel with claims of “you left me all alone” “I fixed everything for you, your whole secret identity problem” while changing into the forms of several classic Superman villains from Lex Luthor to Doomsday before finally revealing the truth.

Mr. Mxyzptlk!

Why did the imp kidnap Jon? What’s the reason for the villain’s revenge?

Before Superman can get the truth, Mxyzplk conjures more strange magic, disappears and wipes the memory of Jon from Lois’s mind.

Where is Jon?

Superman’s son is in the Fifth Dimension in a backup story by Paul Dini and Ian Churchill. Mr. Oz seized the trickster because of the chaos he would cause and threaten his as yet revealed plot for Superman. Just like Tim Drake, Oz wanted to take Mxyzplk off the field.

The trickster assumed the role of Clark Kent to hide from Oz and for revenge because he blamed Superman for his imprisonment.

Mxyzplk may seem like a comedic relief foe compared to Kal-El’s other heavy hitters but the imp’s powers are threat to Oz. The tricker’s ability to travel between dimensions and cause chaos appear to be a danger to Oz’s endgame.

The mystery continues in Superman #19.
