CIVIL WAR II SECRETS, REUNIONS & BIG QUESTIONS

This means war!

The moment fans have been waiting for in Civil War II.

No more arguing, debating or negotiating…here comes the fighting.

Each chapter of the event is packed with shocks and Brian Michael Bendis doesn’t ease up with a ton of big moments that leave us with big burning questions.

I may have switched my allegiance after this issue but first let’s get to what the events of this powerful chapter.

Secrets, reunions, a verdict in the trial of the century and the moment that triggers the big fight…before we break down what this could mean for the second half of Civil War and aftermath…here’s a SPOILER ALERT!

If you have not read Civil War II #4 stop reading now (and go get it!)

Seriously.

OK.

Here it comes.

The verdict is in!

Hawkeye is free to go? Clint Barton was found not guilty of killing Bruce Banner. We will learn more about the trial and why he was acquitted in the one-shot Civil War II: The Accused by Marc Guggenheim next month. Why did Matt Murdock fail to g

She-Hulk is back.
The Jade Giantess was injured by a rogue missile in the fight with Thanos in the New Comic Book Day issue. Jennifer Walters regained consciousness in this week’s chapter only to learn her cousin is dead.

Upon learning of Bruce Banner’s death, She-Hulk’s appearance became different as she appears get angry over the news about Bruce. Jen has grayish skin with glowing green scars. Will She-Hulk follow in the rampaging giant footsteps of her cousin’s monstrous alter ego?

The big cliffhanger was the results of Tony Stark mapping Ulysses’s brain. Turns out the young Inhuman doesn’t see the future. His brain absorbs and analyzes the world’s energies to produce the most likely scenarios of the future. So the future as shown by Ulysses is not written in stone.

The new Illuminati?

Tony is giving this report to what could be hailed as a new Illuminati – Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Medusa, Beast, Captain America, Black Bolt and Black Panther. They are not called the Illuminati in the script but this gathering of powerful leaders sure looks like it could be the next version of the secret super group created by Bendis during his Avengers run.

The Mystery Woman?

A businesswoman is arrested. Ulysses’ vision predicted she’s an undercover Hydra operative about to execute a terrorist act in Manhattan. There’s no evidence against Alison Greene but Carol wants to keep her in custody. Alison is teleported out by Tony’s team member. Carol rallies her forces to the roof and then…

The Moment –
Two groups of heroes facing each other down prepared to do battle. Iron Man claiming his forces could overpower her allies. Then Carol reveals her new recruits – the Guardians of the Galaxy fly in to join the battle.

I admit. I was on Team Carol but I think I’ve changed. What I saw in this issue was a reflection of what happens in real life: profiling. Great superhero stories are always more than just heroes, villains, punches and saving the day. Bendis and Marquez are crafting a morality tale making us think what defines a hero, what defines a criminal, what defines justice.

Civil War II #5 August 31st.
