No S.H.I.E.L.D.

No problem?

Hydra corrupted the ultimate police force.

Captain America, Falcon, Black Widow and Nick Fury destroyed it.

Where does that leave the Marvel Universe when the threat of Ultron emerges?

Chris Evans talks about Steve Rogers re-assembling Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

“Well, it’s not that he’s sounding the alarm. It’s kind of out of necessity. You know, once S.H.I.E.L.D fell this affected everybody, and I don’t know how much I could or even should say. But there is something that affects all of us that requires us all to kind of come back together and fight as a unit. Cap’s just more than willing to take a leadership role. You know, he’s been in wars. He understands the dynamic of a team. He’s not doing it out of arrogance or ego. He’s doing it out of necessity and functionality,” Evans told IGN.

In a team with big brains, big muscles and bigger egos, how does Captain America rise and rally Hulk, Thor and Iron Man?

“Well, certain people are moving on to different things. And the things we’ve each seen in ourselves in this movie, each one of our hurdles, our battles, our struggles, our shortcomings, and our fears — these are the things that have kind of motivate the catalyst for change and evolution. So for someone like Tony, he may not want to be anything but the front man. He has to kind of face that. Thor’s a soldier. I mean he’s just a soldier in another world, you know, so there’s an understanding between Captain, Thor, and same with Hawkeye. I mean these guys have all been in battle, so I think for the most part, there aren’t as many conflicting egos in terms of who’s in charge. It’s more personal conflicts and more personal questions about who they are as people, and what they’re looking for, and what makes sense, and what’s right and wrong. It’s not so much about well, who’s the front man.”

Avengers: Age of Ultron opens May 1st.

Evans will return in Captain America: Civil War in 2016.
