Chris Claremont Anniversary Special

Chris Claremont. The writer who took over the X-Men, launched New Mutants, created iconic characters and penned epic stories that have been the basis of hit films. Five decades of Claremont’s contributions to comics and pop culture will be celebrated with a milestone story written by the legend himself.

Marvel announced the CHRIS CLAREMONT ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL #1 The writer will joined by artists including Brett Booth, Bill Sienkiewicz with a cover by Salvador Larroca. X-fans will celebrate a brand new story starring one of Claremont’s greatest creations.

Claremont wrote my first comic book so this X-fan is nostalgic and excited.

In the announcement about the story, “Dani Moonstar is drafted for a mission across time and space for an incredible psychic showdown against the Shadow King – joining forces with other characters created and defined by the pen of Chris Claremont.”

Claremont is the writer behind X-Men epics like “The Proteus Saga”, “The Dark Phoenix Saga”, “Days of Future Past.” He launched the New Mutants, Excalibur and the first Wolverine solo title. The scribe had incredible runs on Ms. Marvel, Power-Man and Iron Fist and Fantastic Four.

On the cover Dani is is in her Valkyrie uniform surrounded by Gambit, a younger version of Storm, Invisible Woman, Binary as the Goddess of Death Hela looms over them in the backdrop. In “Asgardian Wars” the mutants were entwined in the schemes of Loki and Dani made a pact with Hela turning her into a Valkyrie. Storm’s body was transformed into a child. While on the run Ororo went back to her old ways a childhood thief where she met master thief Gambit. The fiery Binary was the code-name and form once used by Carol Danvers before she became Captain Marvel.

UNCANNY X-MEN #116 by Claremont and artist John Byrne was my first comic book. That was my introduction to the mutants and a lifelong love of comics and X-Men. When I met Claremont at Emerald City Comicon a few years, the first issue was one of the books I had to have signed. I think I said something like, “if comics were songs you wrote the soundtrack of my life.”

The list of characters he co-created is massive but that gallery includes Kitty Pryde, Rogue, Emma Frost, Gambit. Mystique, Sabretooth, Psylocke along with the New Mutants and Alpha Flight.

CHRIS CLAREMONT ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL #1 arrives in December.
