Channing Tatum wants to play Gambit. Producer Lauren Schuler Donner has said Tatum as Gambit is on the X-Men movie agenda.
Will Gambit score his own solo movie or spin off after joining the team in X-Men: Apocalypse?
Let’s look at Remy LeBeau’s comic book past to see where his motion picture future might go:
Remy was adopted by the Thieves Guild of New Orleans. He’s skilled with a bow staff and his mutant power is to charge up kinetic energy in any object. His favorite and signature move is to charge up a deck of playing cards and deal out bombs away.
Remy is definitely a ladies man who once married a mutant name Belladonna of the Assassins Guild in a ceremony meant to form a truce between the Guilds. Remy is best known for his on-again, off-again romance with fellow Southerner Rogue.
Remy is one of many reformed criminals among the X-Men. One of Gambit’s darkest secrets was that played a critical role in helping Mister Sinister orchestrate the “Mutant Massacre.” Remy used his underworld connections to recruit mercenaries including Sabreooth for Sinister who then unleashed them on the mutant tribe known as the Morlocks.
Here are the Aces for winning hand for a movie starring the card carrying charmer:
War of the Guilds – Show the dark underside of New Orleans and Assassins vs. Thieves conflict that Remy hopes to resolve to save lives of those he loves on both sides of the war. With his adopted family and Belladonna on opposite sides you can have a mutant underworld twist on Romeo and Juliet.
Sinister – While I hope Mister Sinister might turn up in X-Men Apocalypse, what if Nathaniel Essex (his scientist alter ego) appears in this film recruiting Remy to do his bidding. This could be a great transformation as the ruthless thief starts changing his ways after learning of Essex’s sinister agenda (which could borrow from the Mutant Massacre storyline.)
If Not Rogue…Who? I’d love to see Anna Paquin return as Rogue again to have tortured romance with Remy but we’ve already seen that with Marie and Bobby so who could be Remy’s leading lady?

Joanna Cargill is a tough super strong former criminal who followed the orders of Apocalypse then became an Acolyte of Magneto before joining the X-Men. During the X-Men Legacy run of Mike Carey and then Christos Gage there was a flirtation building between Remy and Joanna. Frenzy is tough, tortured and a great potential love interest for Remy.
Gambit – solo or team player? Time will tell. Stay tuned X-Fans.
Gambit is currently a member of the All-New X-Factor but it’s a good bet Remy could be returning to the X-Men if a movie is on the fast track.
