The Fearless Defenders enter the Age of Ultron this week but are they still heroes in this new time twisted reality? Acclaimed artist Phil Jimenez joins writer Cullen Bunn on Fearless Defenders #4.1. Jimenez designed Warrior Woman who joined the series at the end of issue two and will drawn the cover and interior art for this week’s tie-in issue.
The end of the Geoff Johns era on Green Lantern arrives this week. The fan favorite writer redeemed Hal Jordan, created the first Arab-American Green Lantern and weaved nearly a decade of compelling, epic stories.
Take a look at these pages from Green Lantern #20 from DC Comics. The final oversized issue by Johns with feature an all-star roster of artists including series artist Doug Mahnke and special guest appearances by Ethan Van Sciver, Ivan Reis, Patrick Gleason, Cully Hamner, Aaron Kuder, Jerry Ordway, and more!
Nathan Fillion (Castle, Firefly, Serenity) stars in Joss Whedon’s retelling of Much Ado About Nothing. Fillion joined the director and other “Whedonverse” alum (Amy Acker, Alexis Denisof, Clark Gregg) for Opening Night of the Seattle International Film Festival.
Fillion explains the appeal of Whedon’s modern take on William Shakespeare’s classic romantic war of words and wits:
The new film was shot in just twelve days at Whedon’s home as part of his break after The Avengers. Fillion has worked for Whedon on Firefly, Serenity, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Doctor Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog. The star explains how being a member Continue reading Nathan Fillion on Joss Whedon & Shakespeare
Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD will hit television screens this fall. Clark Gregg reprises his role as Agent Phil Coulson on the new series set in the world of The Avengers cinematic universe. The television pilot is from The Avengers writer/director Joss Whedon.
Gregg joined Whedon (along with Nathan Fillion, Amy Acker and Alexis Denisof) at Opening Night of the Seattle International Film Festival. Before the screening of Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing I asked Gregg about joining the “Whedonverse” extended family of actors.
Joss Whedon has (almost confirmed?) that Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver will be part of Avengers 2. While promoting Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD at the ABC Fall presentation this week Whedon was asked again by IGN about the inclusion of Magneto’s mutant twins:
“You know, they had a rough beginning. They’re interesting to me because they sort of represent the part of the world that wouldn’t necessarily agree with The Avengers. So they’re not there to make things easier. I’m not putting any characters in the movie that will make things easier.”
Could it be that Wanda and Pietro could be supporting villains in the sequel? In the X-Men comics Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver were members of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants before reforming and joining Earth’s Mightiest Heroes along with Hawkeye (another reformed criminal.)
Did you pick up Avengers: The Enemy Within #1 this week?
This one-shot kicks off a crossover with Captain Marvel and Avengers Assemble all written by Kelly Sue DeConnick.
Carol Danvers was soaring as the new Captain Marvel until she was grounded by a mysterious medical condition.
Now Carol is being haunted by visions of her past but are the threats real or just in her head? Spider-Woman may be the only person who can help her. I really loved how DeConnick wrote the interaction between Carol and Jessica Drew with the enemies that could be real or just phantoms in the Captain’s brain!
There’s no guarantee but I’m hoping Spider-Woman and Captain Marvel may appear on the big screen in a future Avengers movie. Scott Hepburn has a cool style that reminds me of Joe Madureira and Skottie Young. This crossover kicked off with a strong start, action and great development between two of Marvel’s most iconic female heroes.
Comic book writer Kelly Sue DeConnick will appear at GeekGirlCon 2013 celebrating contributions of women to geek culture in comics, science, gaming, film and more.
The biggest news of the network Fall up fronts (when all the U.S. television networks reveal their new shows and lineups) is the official word thatMarvel’s Agents of SHIELD has been picked up and will air on Tuesdays at 8pm on ABC. Marvel’s The Avengers director Joss Whedon wrote and directed the pilot starring Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson leading an elite team of spies working for S.H.I.E.L.D. as seen in Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers.
