One of my most anticipated books for Free Comic Book Day 2012 is the Star Wars/Serenity flipbook from Dark Horse Comics. The publisher will delight two fan universes with one comic book.
The Star Wars story will star Han Solo and Chewbacca. Serenity will feature Captain Mal Reynolds. New art and an interview with writer Zach Whedon (his brother Joss created the Firefly/Serenity universe) is on today’s Comic Book Resources.
You might think Han and Mal might find a lot on common – if they weren’t competing for the same smuggling job but Whedon doesn’t see Reynolds and Solo getting along.
“I think if they could get past their initial misgivings – Mal with Han’s shifty, smooth-talking nature. Han with Mal’s stoic solider routine – they’d have a lot to talk about. But I think it’s more likely they’d butt heads, possibly literally,” said Whedon.

I eagerly awaited The Dark Knight Rises IMAX prologue and new trailer. They looked stunning but the only critique was not being able to understand what Bane was saying.
Batfans are speaking out and Warner Brothers appears to be listening. According to Heat Vision of The Hollywood Reporter the studio is asking Christopher Nolan to alter the sound so audiences can better understand the main villain more clearly. The director responded that he will alter the sound slightly.
Bane wears a mask because he’s inhaling a drug that gives him super strength. In the comics the drug is called Venom.
Opinion – While I admit it was difficult to understand Bane in the prologue and trailer – there’s no question about the physical presence of Tom Hardy. Even in a mask, the actor exudes menace. Batfans- have faith in Nolan.
Mike Carey’s final X-Men story is here. After five a half years Carey is saying goodbye and setting up the future for Rogue, Gambit, Frenzy and Magneto in X-Men Legacy #260
Mike’s portrayal of Rogue is my favorite since Chris Claremont. You could sense the affection for the character in every panel.
X-Men Legacy #260 The X-Men are divided. Magneto chooses Cyclops. Gambit chooses Wolverine. If Rogue survives her mission to save a lost young mutant, who will she follow. This is Mike Carey’s final X-Men issue after five and a half years of epic storytelling.
Justice League #4 Darkseid revealed. Cyborg is born. Aquaman attacks. DC’s big guns are meeting for the first time. Can they stop fighting each other in time to face the real enemy behind the conspiracy.
Batman #4 Batman digs deeper into the Court of Owls and discovers its dark ties to his own family. Scott Snyder keeps delivering intense action and a brutal secret history of Gotham City and the Wayne family that may trap the bat.
Birds of Prey #4 Batgirl joins DC’s female crime fighting force. Three bombs in the brains of three passengers on three trains. The Birds of Prey only know two names of the living bombs. How will they prevent the disaster. DC promises this issue will rewrite the rules for the team.
Daniel Craig will become the longest running James Bond. Craig is filming his third now. Producer Michael G. Wilson tells The Daily Mail he would love for Craig to star in five more 007 films bringing the current Bond up to eight movies making him the longest running Bond in history
“The fan love him and I don’t think there’s a better actor to play the part,” Wilson said.
Roger Moore holds the record now. Skyfall arrives in 2012.
Warner Brothers released the official The Dark Knight Rises trailer featuring spectactular action from Bane and a seductive moments starring Anne Hathaway – not in Catwoman costume.
An international trailer for The Avengers features the Black Widow working her wiles on Bruce Banner.
Widow “You have to join.”
Banner “What if I say no?”
Widow “Then I will convince you to!”
Since Comic Book Movie did the translating from German here’s their great site link so you can see the trailer in German. There’s also footage of Captain American, Iron Man and Bruce Banner.
Earlier this month Scarlett Johansson talked about the Widow’s great story in The Avengers and her hopes for a solo movie.
