Bond Versus Bardem! A Gene for Bad Guys?

  Bond Versus Bardem!

I’m thrilled for any new Bond film but the fact that Javier Bardem is playing the villain in Skyfall just skyrockets the cool factor and excitement level.

I wanted to share what came up on StumbleUpon via Cracked! A hilarious look what makes a Hollywood good guy or bad guy with Daniel Craig and Javier Bardem at the top of the hair color chain.

I absolutely LOVE Blade Runner. I’ve seen 4 versions on the big screen and own the collectors edition

Now humans can see this great out of print art book based on what is one of the greatest science fiction films of all time.

The Blade Runner Sketchbook has been out of print since its 1982 publishing date, but, thanks to this “BR” fanatic, we can now scan every page of the collector’s item online. Check out highlights from Director Ridley Scott and the film’s conceptual designers. Thanks to BuzzFeed and ComicsAlliance.

The sketchbook is listed on Amazon.

Here’s hoping Ridley Scott will return to the world of Blade Runner like he did Alien with his new film Prometheus.

A Geek Can Dream…Ms. Marvel & Wasp Casting Call

As I poured through my sources for news and inspiration I had casting visions.

2012 will see comic book and movie stars shine in Seattle for Emerald City Comicon this Spring and The Avengers assembled on the big screen this Summer.

I’m already thinking of a sequel featuring more favorite Avengers and I had casting ideas inspired by ECCC’s media guests.

Katee Sackoff as Carol Danvers/Ms. Marvel. Katee’s portrayal of Kara “Starbuck” Thrace proves she could play the tough Air Force officer/CIA agent turned Kree ignited superheroine.

Summer Glau’s turn as River Song (I meant Tam, thanks for a follower for the correction) in Firefly and Serenity showed how she could play the vulnerable yet powerful Wasp. The Avengers director Joss Whedon knows what Glau can deliver based on their previous experience together. She just needs the short cut and Janet Van Dyne’s glam.

If you have the Wasp you must include Hank Pym. Could Tom Felton play the genius scientist with multiple super hero identities and a dark side?

Of all the possible Avengers in possible Avengers sequels I think these ones I would want to see on the big screen.

A geek can dream…

Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman

Anne Hathaway joins a famous sorority of actresses who have made Catwoman come to life. The actress is talking with the Los Angeles Times Hero Complex about her Catwoman and the connection to Bane.

Hathaway wants fans to know her portrayal of Selina Kyle will be unique and based on the situation she finds herself in The Dark Knight Rises:

“What’s come before doesn’t limit or even affect this new version. It doesn’t affect me because each Catwoman – and this is true in the comics as well – she is defined by the context of the Gotham City created around her. Catwoman is so influenced by Gotham and whoever is creating Gotham at the time… You have to live in whatever the reality of the world is and whatever Gotham is.

“Gotham City is full of grace. You look at Heath’s performance as the Joker, there was a lot of madness there but there was also a grace and he had a code there. There’s a lot of belief and codes of behavior in Gotham and my character has one, too. A lot of the way she moves and interacts with people is informed by her worldview. Chris has given us all such complex, defined, sophisticated worldviews that it’s just a matter of doing your homework and getting underneath the character’s skin.”

Will Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman purr or roar? After The Dark Knight Rises her performance may claw up to the top of my Catwoman’s Greatest Cuts.

Thanks to the Daily Blam for the Hero Complex interview.

Age of X – 11 for 2011

X-Men Legacy: Age of X collection cover courtesy Marvel.com

Mike Carey’s final year on X-Men Legacy took us to the Age of X – one of my top 11 for 2011. In this reality warped tale mutants are on the verge of extinction. The survivors are making a final stand inside Fortress X against constant attack but a conspiracy within threatens mutantkind. Carey tactically reimagined favorites like Cyclops. Scott is known as Basilisk and married to Frenzy. Rogue is called Legacy because Magneto forces her to keep the memories of millions of dead mutants.

The truth behind the Age of X reality is a mindbender and impetus for Carey’s follow-up arcs. I particular loved Carey’s transformation of Frenzy in Age of X and beyond.

Uncanny X-Force Dark Angel Saga: 11 for 2011

Uncanny X-Force 17 from Marvel.com. Cover Art by Esad Ribic

The Dark Angel Saga is one of the most violent and compelling stories of 2011. Rick Remender took Wolverine’s covert team into the Age of Apocalypse in order to save Angel’s soul.

After years of struggle with the evil Archangel inside him, Warren was about to become the next embodiment of Apocalypse. I recounted the The Seeds of the Dark Angel Saga and how the once golden boy of the original X-Man had transformed into the cold, calm executor of Apocalypse’s vision.

One of the best aspects of Remender’s run this year is his redefining of Psylocke. You felt Betsy and Warren’s love deteriorate with heartbreaking moments and punches in the gut. Like Mike Carey’s portrayal of Rogue on his X-Men: Legacy, I think Rick Remender will be known for his writing of Psylocke.

If you missed the single issues The Dark Angel Saga is collected in two volumes

X-Men Versus Space Gods

Uncanny X-Men #3 courtesy Marvel.com

Humanity may encounter Space Gods on the big screen in Prometheus next year. Cyclops and his Extinction Team face Marvel’s Space Gods in Uncanny X-Men #3 out today.

Kieron Gillen and Carlos Pacheco’s first Regenesis arc reaches a cosmic climax when the Celestials arrive on Earth because of Mister Sinister’s manipulation of their cosmic brother.

The arc kicked off with Cyclops laying out his game plan to protect mutantkind with a show of force. You could say Scott was giving the Avengers a run for the money as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Mister Sinister returned with a plot similar to The Master’s in the The End of Time episode of Doctor Who. I wasn’t sure if I liked this latest incarnation of Sinister who seemed more like a hybrid of Loki and Liberace but I’m sold now.

I loved the dynamic of the Extinction team with tactical brilliance by Cyclops, clever chemistry between Emma Frost and Namor and an absolutely killer moment from Danger.

After taking on an army of Sinister clones – the X-Men stand ready to face the Celestials – with the world watching as Earth’s Mightiest Mutants show why there’s power in fear.

Wolverine may have an adamantium skeleton but Cyclops has nerves and b—- of steel!

No Mission Impossible Takeover?

Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner on sete in The Avengers courtesy Marvel.com

I loved Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. I was on the fence about seeing it until The Dark Knight Rises prologue was attached to the beginning of the IMAX version.

I’m thrilled to say I’m glad I accepted the mission. The latest IMF adventure was the best in the series in part because the great chemistry of a dynamic team: Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton and Simon Pegg.

Renner is dismissing rumors that he is taking over the franchise as the lead character. The star told Reuters that he heard the rumors and “there’s no taking over,” according to MSN Movies.

Renner will play Hawkeye in The Avengers and take over the lead in the Jason Bourne series. Renner will not be playing the same character Matt Damon portrayed in the first three films. The Bourne Legacy is a continuation of the series starring Renner.

One more thing about Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. It will so cool seeing Josh Holloway again. Holloway owns the screen in his brief appearance as an IMF agent.

Hollywood, please get this great, charismatic actor from Lost in new movies or a series again pronto!
