Conan lovers will experience a fan favorite story in comic book form. The Cimmerian turns swashbuckler in a new Conan the Barbarian #1 by Brian Wood and Becky Cloonan.
Dark Horse revealed a variant cover today to fans. The new series is an adaptation of Robert E. Howard’s Queen of the Black Coast.
Conan takes to the high seas with a pirate queen for a swashbuckling new take on the famous Cimmerian in the new series debuting February 8th from Dark Horse.
I think would buy a comic with art by Jim Lee even if he’s drawing a whiteout snowstorm. Jim Lee’s return to a monthly comic is one of the biggest reasons I’m buying the new Justice League title.
Jim Lee’s art drew me in…Geoff Johns dynamic storytelling will keep on board when Lee moves to covers only. This happened before when Lee was recruited to Batman with Jeph Loeb for the year-long Hush storyline. I became hooked on Loeb’s writing and followed him to the Superman/Batman title and my comic book budget was blown. History is repeating itself.
Justice League #7 will mean a new arc and a new interior artist. Gene Ha takes over while Lee continues providing covers. Johns and Ha talked exclusively with Comic Book Resources about building the new team and the new enemies.
“I’ll say this: the big point of the story was introducing the new character dynamics between the main members of the Justice League, so I got to have a lot of fun with how they react to each other and things like that. But the other part of this story is setting up the new villain universe. There’s a lot of really subtle stuff going on there. I’ll just say that I’m not doing the next issue of the book, but oh man — I really wish I was. Something fantastic is being set up for that,” Ha said.
My first time seeing Gene Ha’s work was on The Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix. This was a story in which Scott and Jean were transported into Cable’s future to raise the young mutant who would lead the future rebellion against Apocalypse.
If you’d never experienced Jim Lee’s work on Hush here’s a link.

Marvel.com revealed two photos of the big three from The Avengers movie. Iron Man cruising the night sky and Thor & Captain American in battle. Earth’s Mightiest Heroes Assemble May 4th. Just 5 months until Loki and his secret army attack Earth!
The latest James Bond film is under production. Daniel Craig returns in Skyfall in November. The search is on for the artist to perform theme song. When I first heard this I immediately thought “this is such a James Bond song.”
“Love is Found” is by the one and only Sade is from the Ultimate Collection. When I was lucky enough to finally see Sade in concert last year I was convinced this would made an excellent Bond theme song. Producers will opt for a brand new composition but I humbly submit this song as an inspiration.
Producers of Star Trek 2 have added a new actor in a lead role but will be hero or villain?
Deadline is reporting that producers have hired Benedict Cumberbatch. The British actor is currently on the big screen in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and War Horse. He will playing the dragon Smaug (via motion capture) and the voice of the Necromancer in The Hobbit. He was Sherlock Holmes in Sherlock on BBC.
Benicio Del Toro turned down the villain role. Edgar Ramirez and Jordi Molla was under consideration. Del Toro’s casting immediately generated rumors he would be playing Khan Noonien Singh. I was hoping for a return of the Klingons in the sequel.
I agree with Collider that this casting is a curveball – especially if it is for the main villain role. When I see Cumberbatch – I think Romulan or Andorian.
Quentin Quire isn’t just an annoying, insecure brat that declared war on humanity…he’s downright sadistic in Wolverine and the X-Men Alpha & Omega #1. The battle royale between headmaster and student begins today. And I will love hating Kid Omega even more.
Brian Wood returns to Marvel with this showdown between Logan and Kid Omega to see who will ‘rule the school’ with Armor caught in Quentin’s first strike against Logan.
2011 marked the surprise return of Quentin Quire in Jason Aaron’s X-Men Schism series and then Wolverine and the X-Men series. The rebellious teen is now a critical character and I can’t imagine not having him around to tick off Logan. How can Wolverine defeat an omega level telepath? I can’t wait to see what’s next.
In the final page of issue one there’s a message from creator Brian Wood saying that Quentin needs his own book and a reflection on his early work in the X-Men family. 2000 was his “first real work-for-hire writing job, co-writing with Warren Ellis on Generation X.”
This was when Warren Ellis led the Counter X relaunch of Marvel’s mutant titles. The Generation X lineup included Emma Frost, Jubilee, Husk, Chamber, and Monet with art by Steve Pugh. Ellis and Wood sent the kids away from the mansion on a cross-country adventure tracking down missing kids across America. Welcome back to the X-family and Marvel, Brian.
