Uncanny X-Men: Suddenly Psylocke

Uncanny X-Men #5 courtesy Marvel.com

The fallout from The Dark Angel Saga is bleeding into the main X-Men titles. This week’s Uncanny X-Men #5 and last week’s Wolverine and the X-Men #5 take the aftermath of Rick Remender’s Uncanny X-Force epic to create new characters and threats for Logan and Scott’s teams.

Psylocke is becoming the female version of Wolverine. Scott and Betsy have a clever exchange that plays on the fact that suddenly Psylocke is in every X-book and a crucial part of every key storyline now.

Someone on the Extinction Team knows about Logan and Betsy’s dark secret from Uncanny X-Force and that could lead to some intense future plot threads for Cyke’s team – if they survive their trip to Tabula Rasa.

Are You Feeling The Fearless?

Fear Itself: The Fearless #7 courtesy Marvel.com

I am loving Fear Itself: The Fearless and the latest chapter only pumped up my enthusiasm for this series. Valkyrie has gone rogue with the Avengers in pursuit. The Asgardian warrior woman is racing around the world against the evil forces of Sin to recover the mystical weapons in the aftermath of Fear Itself.

This series is a showcase for one of the most underrated characters in the Marvel Universe. The writers show Valkyrie in action against her own teammates, pivotal moments from her life in Asgard as Odin’s shieldmaiden and emotional moments on Earth during the Fear Itself crisis. I’m thrilled to see this character get the spotlight she deserves.

Cullen Bun is scripting from a story developed by Matt Fraction, Chris Yost and himself. Paul Pelletier and Mark Bagley provide the art while Arthur Adams continues to deliver one awesome cover after another of action and monsters.

This issue features the Avengers in what looks like a flashback from the X-Men Inferno epic, a bloody showdown between Wolverine and Crossbones, a huge betrayal and new alliance of evil.

I just can’t wait for what I hope is a Valkyrie/Sin throwdown. Teasers say Valkyrie will raid the X-Men’s home base next. You can browse all the issues so far at this Marvel.com link.

Don’t Call It the Batwing!

Batman is chasing Bane in a flying machine in the trailer for The Dark Knight Rises. It’s been referred to as the Batwing but today Wireless Goodness is reporting that it’s being officially called “The Bat.”

The news developed after a FCC filing by Hot Wheels on their upcoming toy version. The source claims this image is from the instruction manual from the vehicle that will be on store shelves later this year.

Batman #5 Experiment in Insanity

Batman #5 courtesy DC Comics

Calling Batman #5 the latest chapter is not giving Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo the credit they deserve. Batman #5 is a work of macabre art and a bold experiment in storytelling that will take its place in graphic novel history.

Batman is caught in the ultimate trap set by the Court of Owls. As our hero tries to stay focused in their elaborate labyrinth the comic book you’re reading actually twists and turns taking you inside the mindwarping maze right up the slaughter.

You may actually may feel discomfort and tension just like Batman as your watch him lose his sanity and struggle to maneuver inside the trap. Snyder and Capullo have created an experience.

This is the work of two dark creative forces literally breaking a hero’s psyche and taking the reader into his journey into madness. The Court of Owls may still remain a mystery but clearly Snyder and Capullo are master manipulators like the villains with a grip on Gotham City and making Batman lose his grip on reality.

The Walking Dead Producer on Andrea and Michonne

Executive Producer Gale Ann Hurd talks about the strong female cast members of The Walking Dead and teased the future appearance of fan favorite Michonne to Water Cooler Journal.

“Andrea is already undergoing a change in her character from a civil rights attorney lacking survival skills already found in some of the men (like the deputies Rick and Shane, or the survivalist Daryl) into someone who can take care of herself,” Hurd told Water Cooler Journal. “Maggie Greene is a farmer’s daughter who can ride horses better than any of the men, and takes out a walker the first time we see her in the series. And one of the most kick ass characters from the comic book is Michonne, a samurai sword wielding woman, who will be introduced in future seasons.”

Thanks to Comic Book Resources for the story.

Creator and Executive Producer dismissed rumors that True Blood star Rutina Wesley was cast as Michonne and will appear later this season. Have faith fans, sounds like the favorite character will eventually appear.

“Thor leads a secret team of Avengers on a suicide mission to stop the Phoenix by any means necessary.”

Rick Remender and Renato Guedes provide story and art. This cover is by the legendary Alan Davis. Majestic comes to mind when I think of his art!

No Moneypenny in Skyfall

Actress Naomie Harris puts one James Bond rumor to bed! Hope you didn’t have any money on Harris playing Miss Moneypenny in Skyfall!

When Harris was cast fans and tabloids speculated she would be playing M’s assistant Miss Moneypenny. The character was a mainstay of previous Bond films but has yet to appear in a Daniel Craig film. Producers said Harris would be playing an MI6 field agent named Eve. Speculation continued that Eve would be eventually become Moneypenny as part of the story.

Harris says don’t expect Eve to come in from field duty to sit behind a desk:

“The idea of me being Moneypenny was a good, racy rumour. But Eve is not remotely office-bound. She gets to see plenty of action. That meant a lot of gun training,” Harris told LIVE magazine.

“I’m such a pacifist that I never thought I’d be excited about guns, but I absolutely loved it. The weapons training I’d done on Miami Vice was with real bullets, but this time I was shooting blanks. I did two hours three times a week for three months, mostly working with a Walther PPK, a very light, very beautiful, ladylike gun.”

“What drew me to this was the opportunity to play a new kind of Bond Girl. We are Bond Girls who are multi-faceted, intelligent and capable,” said Harris of the roles herself and Bernice Marlohe will play in Skyfall.

I’ve loved Harris since her role in 28 Days Later and think she will rock 007. Thanks to MI6 for the story.
