Stars of Kick Ass, Green Lantern and X-Men Origins: Wolverine in the same movie? Aaron Johnson, Blake Lively and Taylor Kitsch star in Oliver Stone’s Savages.

The R rated film is based on the book by Don Winslow. The story involves two pot growers who share the same girlfriend. She is kidnapped by a Mexican cartel.

Today Universal moved up the release date to July 6th according to The Hollywood Reporter.   The studio moved it up to compete against The Amazing Spider-Man after a test screening last week. The story goes on to say the film had a hard R rating and along the lines of Pulp Fiction.

This is one of three big movies for the Kitsch. John Carter arrives next month and Battleship in May.

Has the CW Network hit a bullseye with actor Stephen Amell? The actor will play DC’s playboy/vigilante Oliver Queen in the pilot Arrow according to Deadline. The actor was recently on The Vampire Diaries, New Girl, Private Practice and has appeared on 90210, Blue Mountain State, Dante’s Cove, and the television movie Justice for Natalee Holloway.

On HBO’s Hung Amell played a rival prostitute and was a finalist to replace the late Andy Whitfield on Starz Spartacus: Vengeance

According to Comic Book Resources Dinah Laurel Lance will appear in the pilot as a crusading lawyer. No word on if the character will have the same DC Comics alter ego, Black Canary.

And a reminder for fans of the comic book – the legendary Ann Nocenti is taking over the Green Arrow series in March.

X-Men First Class Cast Confirmed

X-Men: First Class courtesy 20th Century Fox

X Marks the spot for the cast of X-Men: First Class. Following up on yesterday’s news that Matthew Vaughn will return to direct the next film – The Hollywood Reporter Heat Vision reports that the entire cast will return – including Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence.

One point the article makes is that Simon Kinberg is working on the script – he wrote the excellent Sherlock Holmes and the “critically reviled” X-Men: The Last Stand.

I hope Rose Byrne’s Moira MacTaggert is back. I think James McAvoy (will he lose his locks in the next film?) and Byrne have great chemistry to explore.

Casting the The Governor on The Walking Dead

The Governor ruthlessly rose into the pantheon of the most sinister villains in graphic novel history. The sadistic survival group leader appear may in the third season of the AMC series. Movieweb reports John Hawkes (Winter’s Bone, Deadwood) is being eyed for the role but a zombie legend wants his shot at the Governor.

Tom Savini is campaigning for the role. Savini is the make-up master who created the zombie carnage in George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead. Savini’s acting credits include From Dusk Till Dawn, Planet Terror and Land of the Dead.

“I have been campaigning to be the Governor on that damn thing with Greg Nicotero for over a year. Everytime I see the graphic novel, and I see a picture of the Governor, who looks just like me, I send Greg a picture. I just won’t give up. Last time I talked to him about it, when I was in Los Angeles, he said they were going after a name for that part. I said, “Who?” He said John Hawkes. Well, I never heard of John Hawkes. But then he reminds me that we were in From Dusk Till Dawn together. He is the guy at the beginning in the store that fires on them. Apparently he was up for an Academy Award. He was up for something called Winter’s Bone. That’s whom they are going after for The Governor. But everyone I talk to, the people that read the graphic novels…They’ve all said that I would be the perfect Governor. Because he is tough and brutal. And…I look just like the graphic depiction of him!”
