Somewhere up in Heaven I think Edgar Rice Burroughs is smiling or cheerig. Here’s 4 minutes of Disney’s John Carter based on the first John Carter novel A Princess of Mars. I think director Andrew Stanton has done it! Bring on the Tharks!
I can’t believe we’ve had so many version of Tarzan and this is the first John Carter…hopefully it’s just the beginning! See you on Barsoom in March! Thanks to Twitchfilm. I suggest you check their more expanded review.
David Morrissey is The Governor! The British actor has landed highly anticipated role on AMC’s The Walking Dead according to Deadline. Morrissey will join the series in Season Three.
In Robert Kirkman’s graphic novels the Governor is the leader of Woodbury, a small settlement of survivors who becomes the antagonist for hero Rick Grimes.
Sci-Fi fans may remember Morrissey from the Doctor Who Christmas Special: The Two Doctors.
Fans of the comic book series have been eagerly waiting for word of when the villain would join the show. I can’t even begin to describe just how sadistic this character is in the series. The Governor represents a theme in great zombie fiction. What humanity is capable of is sometimes more horrific that the so-called monsters.
A Geek’s Pondering:
With Jon Bernthal starring in a pilot for a new series could it be that Shane’s days on the show are numbered now that the Governor will become Rick’s main antagonist?
Fan favorite Michonne is introduced before the Governor in the books so can we expect to see her join the series next season too.
What do you think of the casting?
Stay tuned for me – the Image Comic Expo is this weekend. The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman may have more announcements or comments.
While Taylor Kitsch has been talking about a possible sequel to Disney’s John Carter, Marvel is taking John back to Mars in a new 5 part comic book series. Sam Humphries and Ramon Perez are the creative team on John Carter: The Gods of Mars.
This new series takes John back to Barsoom in the world created by the great Edgar Rice Burroughs. Marvel gave Comics Newsarama a first look at the several pages. I wanted to share this cool page of the hero using the enhanced powers. Like Superman is powered by the yellow sun, John’s body gets powers from Mars.
Here’s an earlier post with Humphries talking about how this series picks up a decade after events in the movie.
The Man of Steel cast underwent scuba diving training with Below H2o Scuba Diving. Here’s a photo of the new Superman, Henry Cavill, on the Superman: The Man of Steel Facebook fan page. The only other star pictured is Russell Crowe who plays Jor-El. Maybe the scuba training is for a Kryptonian special effect?
Naomie Harris and Berenice Marlohe reveal their experiences working on the next James Bond film Skyfall.
“I’m trying to do all my own stunts,” Harris told reporters. “I’ve done them all so far. In a couple of weeks we’ve got another big stunt thing, so I don’t know if I can do all of them. But I’m trying to!”
Harris plays Eve, an MI6 field agent. Marlohe plays Severine who so far is a mystery woman but told Total Film she hopes for some romantic scenes with 007.
“I certainly hope I’ll kiss Daniel Craig,” the French actress said. “I will have Sam [Mendes] change everything if not!”
This makes me wonder which actress is the lead? Most 007 films feature one Bond girl who usually pays a terrible price for sleeping with James Bond earlier in the story and Bond meets up with the lead later on and for the rest of the adventure. Daniel Craig’s previous Bond films have definitely shaken up that formula.
The Green Goliath is ready for action in this new photo courtesy Screen Rant. Mark Ruffalo plays Dr. David Banner. In the comic book origin Loki manipulates the Hulk into a rampage which unites the Avengers. All the clues from the trailers make it appear the Hulk is not an enemy but ally of the heroes. Has SHIELD found a way to tame or control the gamma powered powerhouse or could Joss Whedon have been inspired by the Peter David 90’s run when he merged Banner and the Hulk so you had Banner’s intelligence and the Hulk’s body?
Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer is defending Director Christopher Nolan’s secrecy surrounding the final Batman film.
“There’s always this thing [that people say], ‘Oh, Chris is so secretive.’ Well, I think that there are two elements to this. One is, I think, to be able to do really good work, you have to have the chance to fail in privacy. And if everybody’s watching you on the Internet, I think it stifles creativity. And I think ‘Dark Knight’ is the perfect example of this idea. Everybody knew we were making a Batman movie. But until it came out they didn’t know it was going to be that sort of a Batman movie,” Zimmer told Hero Complex.
“And isn’t that what we’re supposed to do? We’re supposed to go and surprise you. And part of the experience has to be a surprise. It feels a little bit like we’re working very hard at protecting part of what is great about movies — the surprise. Because it seems like the world doesn’t want you to do that anymore. They want to know everything, they want to know about the stars and [this and that] immediately. And it’s not important to us. To us, really, the thing is the writing and the script and the ideas and the journey, and making it into something really good,” he adds.
For the entire interview here’s the link. Well said and without the secrecy we wouldn’t have so much fun speculating!
007 is going BIG! Skyfall will be the first James Bond film screened in IMAX format. IMAX, EON Productions, MGM Studios and Sony Pictures announced the new Bond film will be show in IMAX theaters.
Thanks to Dark Horizons. See you at the Pacific Science Center IMAX in Seattle this November!
