If Catwoman Was Your Bodyguard

Anne Hathaway will play Catwoman in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. I’m still not sure which side the cinematic Selina Kyle will choose – the most recent trailer seemed to show her against Bane.

In the comics – Catwoman and Spark will be caught up in the Night of the Owls crossover this week. The Court of Owls have unleashed assassins to take out targets across Gotham City. Nightwing protected the Mayor. Batwing saved Lucius Fox. The Council went after Batgirl’s dad. In Catwoman #9 Selina Kyle and Spark are forced to defend…The Penguin.

I’ve enjoyed every crossover title so far so I’m looking forward to Catwoman against a Talon but of all the targets…she has to save Penguin?

Rex Velvet Welcomed by the International Society of Supervillains

It appears Rex Velvet, the self-proclaimed “People’s Villain” of Seattle has been welcomed by the International Society of Supervillains. Is this the next phase of Velvet’s campaign?

You may have seen this post from last week hinting that the creative and charismatic ‘villain’ is plotting something new.

First Seattle, now the world? Is there no end to your ambition Rex?

Jon Favreau on Iron Man 3

Iron Man from Marvel.com

If Stan Lee is the “father” of a majority of the Marvel comic book universe then you might call Jon Favreau the hip cool uncle who kickstarted the movie counterparts. Favreau’s Iron Man and Iron Man 2 launched the succesful birth of the cinematic Marvel universe. The actor/producer/director was congratulated on the success of The Avengers in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

“Yeah, how do you like that? Turned out really well. Look, it was something we always planned for, and hoped for, but anything could have gone wrong, and it took a lot of things to go right. First and foremost, Joss, to be able to pull together — four different characters based on four different sets of films that shared a lot tonally and they shared some cast-wise, but he had to pull all those things together and make it work, it’s a very high degree of difficulty for him. But we had done a lot of setup in Iron Man 2 and even in Iron Man 1, we were hoping that it would come to this. I don’t think it became a reality until the last few years, but we were definitely planning for it. But it took a lot of people to pass the baton well, and each director who had been involved with the franchises did their part, but it took Joss to really seal the deal, and clearly it worked out, because the moment seems to continue going.”

Favreau is producing Iron Man 3 but Shane Black is directing. Robert Downey Jr and Black worked together on Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. The next Iron Man film is based on Extremis Warren Ellis. Does that equal a dark tone for Tony’s next adventure?

“No, just a little bit more offbeat, I’d say. Shane and Robert definitely have an original point of view and an original take on the character, and I think it delves deeper into what makes Tony Stark tick and plays on the unexpected original unpredictable quality of the character that I think fans gravitate to.”

Bane’s Mask in The Dark Knight Rises

Tom Hardy as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, Total Film exclusive

Batman faces Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. Total Film shares an exclusive new photo of Bane’s face close up. You can really see the detail of the villain’s mask. It reminds me of a Predator mask. It appears metal hands are opening Bane’s mouth. Tom Hardy told the magazine about the experience of wearing the facewear.

“It’s not as bad as you might think. You just put it on. Work out where you drool goes. That’s it. Mask work is good fun. This one wasn’t painful; there was the stunt mask and there was the up-close on for the sexy glam shots.”

When you look at Hardy’s expression you can tell Bane is seeing something disturbing…maybe the flying Batwing?

Johnny Depp Should Be Doctor Strange

Dark Shadows starring Johnny Depp as lovelorn, time lost vampire Barnabas Collins didn’t dethrone The Avengers from the top of the box-office. Depp’s latest collaboration with director Tim Burton is the actor’s latest journey into the dark goth side. I think Depp would be the prescription for a big screen version Doctor Strange. Dark Shadows makes Depp top of mind but his performances in The Ninth Gate and From Hell are what really seal the casting deal for me.

Stephen Strange was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. The Doctor was a brilliant surgeon with a troubled family past. An accident damaged the nerves in his hands ending his career. Searching the world for an alternative cure Strange encountered a mysterious being in Tibet called the Ancient One. This meeting led to his study of sorcery and eventually becoming Master of the Mystic Arts and sorcerer Supreme of Earth.

I can picture an adventure with Strange and Baron Mordo, both students of the Ancient One, until Mordo betrays them to become a disciple of Dormannu. Clea was the Doctor’s student and eventual love interest. Doctor Strange could easily fit into Marvel’s cinematic universe.

Doctor Strange is currently serving with the Avengers during Avengers vs X-Men and The Defenders by Matt Fraction and Terry Dodson.

The Prometheus official movie site reveals 6 new photos. This one above shows Michael Fassbender at the android David in the Space Jockey’s chair looking at a star map…to Earth?

And this new featurette has the stars and Ridley Scott discussing the theme of humanity’s origin and perhaps giving away a little more of the plot. Take a look:

Thanks to MTV. And I’m excited to see my Entertainment Weekly featuring new phots of the cast.

New Mutants Fight The Future

The New Mutants and Kid Loki (in Journey Into Mystery)are currently magically mixed up in the Exiled crossover. Writers Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning will follow up with Fear the Future guest starring Doctor Strange and the Defenders in issue #44.

“Something’s up, and the Defenders intend to defend against it, like they do,” previews Abnett. “The New Mutants are right at the heart of it all. There are some pretty big surprises and reveals coming along.

“The Defenders are all serious and grown up; there’s some amusement to be had when they all hang out in the New Mutants’ house.

Fear will be followed by Fight the Future. Marvel.com revealed these covers for  New Mutants #47 and #48 by John Tyler Christopher coming in August.

The writing duo confirm Cannonball, Karma and Blink will be making appearances in the upcoming story. Looking the cover – it looks like the Hellions are back (looking all techno zombie resurrected like they did in the Necrosha event!) For more of the Abnett and Lanning interview here’s the Marvel.com link.

Here’s an earlier post talking about the possibility of a New Mutants movie, my hope some of the characters appear in the next X-Men: First Class film and The Hunger Games star who’d be perfect for one of the kids.

“Avengers” Billion Dollar Damage

The Avengers vs the Chitauri & Loki (if it really happened) would cost New York City $160 billion. This price tag is based on a report by Kinetic Analysis Corp – a leading disaster-cost prediction and assessment firms. The story is a Hollywood Reporter exclusive.

It would time to call in Damage Control. This Marvel series is about a company that cleans up after super hero vs villain battles. The series debuted following the Acts of Vengeance crossover. With an office in Manhattan and warehouse in New Jersey – their clean up teams are ready to mop up after massive throwdowns. Damage Control has done contract work to repair the Avengers mansion, Four Freedoms Plaza (formerly the Baxter building, home of the Fantastic Four) and Stark Enterprises. The company’s last big job was cleaning up New York City after the events of World War Hulk.

Crews wear uniforms bearing the company’s bulldog emblem. I doubt we’ll see a Damage Control movie but maybe they could have a cameo in the next Avengersmovie? Or maybe the company’s mascot – see below.
