X-Men:First Class Sequel Will Be “Days of Future Past”

Producer Bryan Singer confirms that the sequel to X-Men: First Class will be titled Days of Future Past and based on the classic story by Chris Claremont. For an X-Men comic reader – it’s close to the Holy Grail of mutant epics.

“It’s going to be very ambitious. It deals will aspects of that comic but also some very new things”Singer tells IGN.

In Uncanny X-Men #141 and 142 the Days of Future Past was a powerhouse two-part story in two timelines. In a future North America rules by Sentinels (mutant hunting robots) most super heroes have been hunted down and exterminated or imprisoned. Magneto, Storm, Colossus and his wife Kate (Kitty Pryde) are in the camp. Rachel Summers (daughter of Scott/Cyclops and Jean Grey) and Franklin Richards (son of Reed and Sue of the Fantastic Four) are together and living in the prison camp too. Wolverine is with an underground resistance movement.

The future X-Men conceive a daring plot to rewrite history and change the nightmare future. Rachel uses her psionic powers to send Kate’s consciousness into the past and into the body of Kitty Pryde who just joined the X-Men. Kitty must convince the mutants to go to Washington, D.C. to prevent the assassination of Senator Robert Kelly by the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants led by Mystique. The killing of Kelly led to the country’s hatred of mutants and implementation of Sentinels. While the past X-Men race to prevent the assassination, the remaining future X-Men fight the Sentinels.

Since this storyline features a much older Wolverine and Hugh Jackman is getting older…maybe Jackman could make an appearance as the older Logan leading the underground resistance movement in the future.

The next X-Men film will likely not follow the storyline exactly but it could be an exciting way to reboot the entire film franchise but like Spock created a new timeline in JJ Abrams Star Trek.

We could forget X-Men: The Last Stand ever happened. Professor Xavier and Cyke would still be alive. It could be a whole new beginning for the film franchise and I love Rachel Summers.

Angie Harmon As She-Hulk?

Sensational She-Hulk Volume One by John Byrne courtesy Marvel

Angie Harmon (Law & Order, Rizzoli & Isles) tells Conan O’Brien she wants to play She-Hulk! Stan Lee and John Buscema created the jade giant in Savage She-Hulk #1. Attorney Jennifer Walters is the cousin of Bruce Banner who got Hulked up after a blood transition from him.

She-Hulk has been a member of the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Defenders, Lady Liberators, Heroes for Hire and SHIELD. Jennifer has been the legal counsel for numerous Marvel superheroes. John Byrne and Peter David had long runs writing Senstational She-Hulk in which Jennifer broke the fourth wall and talked directly with the comic book reader.

Jennifer’s romances include John Jameson, Starfox and she has a longtime crush on Hercules. Here’s Angie Harmon:

She-Hulk may not appear in an Avengers or her own solo movie but maybe a television series on ABC? Kind of a Sex and the City meets Ally McBeal with superheroes – if Angie is really willing to go green! Thanks to TeamCoco and Comic Book Resources.

Patrick Stewart “Makes It So” in Seattle!

courtesy Paramount

Emerald City Comicon announced the first celebrity guest for 2013 and it’s huge! Sir Patrick Stewart of Star Trek: The Next Generation and X-Men will appear at the Seattle con March 1-3, 2013. He will be appearing Saturday and Sunday only.

Emerald City Comicon shattered records with over 53,000 attendees at the Washington State Convention Center.

Hellboy creator Mike Mignola will be returning to ECCC in 2013.

Back to gushing about Sir Patrick Stewart…I love Captain Jean Luc Picard and no one else could have played Professor Xavier but I also remember him as Gurney Halleck in Dune. “Gurney Man” is one of my favorite characters in my all time favorite sci-fi book. Say what you will about David Lynch’s version but Stewart was perfection as the brave warrior for the Atreides.

James Bond Skyfall Trailer

courtesy 007.com

James Bond is dead….long live James Bond. Daniel Craig returns as 007 in Skyfall. The trailer for the new 007 film is live. Bond is assassinated by one of his own under orders from M but as Ian Fleming wrote “you only live twice.”

Here’s what we know: M (Dame Judi Dench) loses a drive containing covert agents in terrorist organizations. Eve (Naomie Harris) is ordered to “take the shot” killing Bond. Ralph Fiennes is a government agent cleaning up the mess made by M. Javier Bardem plays the villain Silva who says “mommy was very bad.” Both men appear to want to make M pay for her sins.

Berenice Marlohe’s Severine works for Silva. And we met Q (Ben Wishaw) and he’s just a kid but what a cool delivery, “less of a random killing machine…more of a personal statement.”

Director Sam Mendes and Daniel Craig have said Skyfall echoes the Sean Connery 1960’s Bond films. I definitely get a From Russia, With Love vibe but with a modern, faster pace from this trailer. Silva reminds me of a Red Grant (Robert Shaw) but much more powerful and crazier with a touch of Hannibal Lecter. Bardem kills it and steals the show!

Hawkeye Solo Book

Hawkeye #1 courtesy Marvel.com

The Avenging Archer’s solo comic book debuts this week. Hawkeye #1 marks the reunion of writer Matt Fraction and artist David Aja. The duo (along with Ed Brubaker) last worked together on The Immortal Iron Fist.

Aja told Marvel.com his lifelong love for Clint Barton is what led to the reunion.

“Hawkeye was one my favorite characters when a kid,” he recalls. “One of first Marvel comics I read was Avengers #25, and I [fell] in love with [the] guy; he acted as real person, was a complete jerk, so I suppose I identified with him.”

For Fraction Hawkeye represents a challenge after taking on the X-Men, Iron Man, and Thor.

“Never had the chance to write a character like him, or to do a book like this before,” the writer reveals. “And I wanted to chronicle him in an ongoing series because it’d keep me from getting bored. Repetition bores me to death. I had this idea for how to do a book that wasn’t like anything else we’d seen him in before, wasn’t like anything I’d done before, and couldn’t stop thinking about.”

Hawkeye #2 courtesy Marvel.com

Fraction went on the describe this series as Clint’s life outside of team and what drives him after the events of AvX. I was excited that Kate Bishop (you could call her Lady Hawkeye of the Young Avengers) will be in the series.

“She’s his junior partner, his apprentice,” says Fraction. “It’s a very Avengers relationship—meaning Steed and Peel—and she’s as adrift as he is. What the hell are these two doing with their lives? Turns out, helping people is what they have to do to get through the night. In costume, in life, doesn’t matter. Good guys don’t punch a time card at 5:00.”

For the more from Fraction and Aja here’s the Marvel.com link.

Fraction is one of the luckiest writers at Marvel. Iron Man and Thor movies were released during Fraction’s early runs on the those series. I don’t remember his clever quote exactly (at an Emerald City Comicon panel) but I think it went something like “nice of Marvel to do a million dollar promo for my comic book.”

Hawkeye awareness will be at an all time high with the success of  Marvel’s The Avengers then Jeremy Renner (who played Clint Barton) is on the big screen again this month for The Bourne Legacy. Good timing for a Hawkeye launch.

Hawkeye also is currently leading Secret Avengers  by Rick Remender. No word on if Clint will be part of Jonathan Hickman’s Marvel NOW! Avengers relaunch.

James Bond In Skyfall Teaser Trailer!

courtesy 007.com

It may be a teaser for a trailer and wow does it deliver! In the Skyfall teaser we learn about M’s past coming back to haunt her. Mallory (Ralph Fiennes) in a cool tone confronts M (Dame Judi Dench) over losing a disc with the “identity of every covert agent embedded in terrorist organization across the globe.”

During that dialogue you see 007 (Daniel Craig) is the agent who lost it and then he’s on top of a train. M orders “take the bloody shot” and as assasin shoots James Bond on a moving train and he falls.

…And I freaked out! The trailer arrives tomorrow. Skyfall opens this November.

Thanks Deadline.
