Brian Michael Bendis brought Luke Cage out of comics oblivion and made him an Avenger. (Thank You!) With all the Marvel Now creative shakeups I was wondering where Cage might end up?
Spoiler Warning!
If you have not read New Avengers #34 you may not want to keep reading!
Ok
Here it comes
In New Avengers #34 by Bendis and Mike Deodato Luke left the Avengers with wife Jessica and raise their baby. How will this former Avenger make a living? Luke teases that he’s bringing back his Heroes-For-Hire with “a new way to play it.”
Jessica didn’t seem to thrilled by the idea.
So far Luke Cage and Iron Fist have not been named as part of Jonathan Hickman’s huge roster for this Avengers relaunch or any other Marvel Now title.
Could there be a new Heroes for Hire starring Luke and Danny Rand by Bendis? I loved how there were “street level Avengers” like Luke, Danny and Daredevil but where do they fit in the Marvel Now?
I would love a new Heroes for Hire book with Luke and Danny taking on the Hand or a new Maggia. Way back in the day Power Man and Iron Fist was a cool, action packed buddy book and perfect for a modern reboot. Heroes or Hire, Avenger or something new…Luke Cage (and Jessica and Danny) is too great a character to go back on the back burner.
There’s a big rumor about the villain that will unite DC’s biggest heroes in a Justice League movie. According to Latino Review Warner Brothers will have Darkseid as the villain for the big screen battle.
Darkseid is a God-like being from a dark dimension, rules planet Apokalips and armies of evil warriors (Parademons, Female Furies, Kalibak, Desaad.)
Darkseid was the first villain to The New 52 Justice League fought and his invasion was the key that united the heroes.
I still think the smarter, cooler direction is to have a Superman/Batman team-up against Lex Luthor and Ra’s Al Ghul as the super villains try to tap into The Source of extradimensional power. Diana (not Wonder Woman yet) is a warrior woman trying to warn the outside world of the invading force (Darkseid) that is a legend among the Amazons. Bruce, Clark, and Diana fail. Lex and Ra’s unleash Darkseid.
The Superman/Batman team-up movie leads into the Justice League’s big showdown against Darkseid and his invading forces.
I’m also a big fan of Maxwell Lord from The Omac Project but I guess if you’re competing with a Titan (Thanos in The Avengers sequel) you have to go big with your biggest villains – you don’t get bigger than Darkseid!
In 2013 Jonathan Hickman and Steve Epting assemble a new Illuminati to save the world! Some of Marvel’s most brilliant minds gather to prevent our universe’s collision with another universe. Black Panther leads Mister Fantastic, Doctor Strange, Black Bolt, Iron Man, Beast and Namor against a swarm of invading parallel realities.
Marvel shared new Steve Epting art from inside New Avengers #1 in which Wakanda becomes ground zero for the invasion.
Black Panther’s homeland is recovering from Namor’s invasion in Avengers vs. X-Men. T’Challa is coping with the end of his marriage to Storm and the destruction of his country.
T’Challa is a formidable warrior but a brilliant scientist too. Black Panther refused to join the original Illuminanti but this time he’s leading the secret cabal of Marvel’s biggest brains.
New Avengers #1 arrives January 2, 2013. I’m thrilled to see Black Panther back on the front burner in comics and hope this is a sign T’Challa may appear in a future Avengers movie.
The insanely creative crew behind “We’re NASA and We Know It” viral video senstation have a new video that sci-fi and science fans will enjoy! Watch “Cool Things to Find” a parody of Dumb Ways to Die. Alien and Doctor Who fans will especially enjoy the humor.
Thanks to Forest and the Cinesaurus crew for making my Friday! Stay curious my friends!
Marvel is aiming for the stars for their next big comic book and comic book movie franchise! James Gunn is reportedly been hired to direct Guardians of the Galaxy. Now the search for a star to play the leader: Peter Quill aka Star-Lord.
Joel Edgerton, Lee Pace, Jack Huston, Eddie Redmayne, Jim Sturgess are in contention along with Garrett Hedlund and James Marsden as options according to Deadline.
How important is Guardians of the Galaxy to Marvel? Brian Michael Bendis. The writer of Avengers, Ultimate Spider-Man and now All-New X-Men is writing a brand new Guardians of the Galaxy series with superstar artist Steve McNiven and Iron Man is joining the team.
Peter Quill is the son of a human mother and alien father raised on Earth who leads a ragtag group of aliens on adventures in deep space. In the comics the Guardians and Avengers have worked together so expect a cinematic tie-in, especially given the appearance of Thanos.
Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables) matches the look of Peter Quill but my gut goes for Garrett Hedlund (Tron) because once he becomes Star-Lord he gets a little grittier.
I’m still hoping Dwayne Johnson will play Drax the Destroyer.
Hugh Jackman leading the real Last Stand! In the classic Days of Future Past storyline Logan leads the underground resistance in a future North America ruled by Sentinels. Magneto, Storm, Colossus and Kitty Pryde (now Kate Rasputin) are the only surviving X-Men. The heroes eventually break out of their concentration camp and join Logan on a suicide raid on Sentinel headquarters. Hugh Jackman is now in talks to join the film.
Rachel Summers! The daughter of Scott and Jean is the key to the story. Rachel is telepathic and telekinetic like her mother and uses her psionic powers to send Kate’s mind into the present day body of a younger Kitty Pryde who must convince the X-Men to prevent an assassination that will lead to this dark future. Bryce Dallas Howard (yes I know she’s already been in a Spidey movie) would be perfect as tragic daughter of Scott and Jean. Rachel was forced to be a “Hound” and track down fellow mutants. In the comic books Rachel escaped the future and went into the past became the new Phoenix and joined the X-Men. She currently teaches as the Jean Grey School.
Franklin Richards! The last surviving member of the Fantastic Four is in love with Rachel. The son of Reed and Susan Storm Richards is in the camp with the surviving X-Men and I won’t reveal his final fate. Mark Millar’s new role as Creative Consultant for the Fox controlled Marvel franchises includes the upcoming reboot of Fantastic Four. This film could serve as a reboot point for both franchises similar to J.J. Abrams’s Star Trek.
Kitty Pryde/Kate Rasputin! Could Singer recruit Ellen Page to reprise her role? In the future Kate is married to Colossus (as it should be!) but agrees to have her mind travel into the past to rally the X-Men to stop a chain of events leading to the dark future. I think this is unlikely given the time period of the previous film.
Frenzy! I think the movie version will still have a Brotherhood of Mutants attempt to assassinate a Senator. The killing leads to the creation of the Sentinels. Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) will need new members of their Brotherhood. Why not have the gorgeous and formidable Frenzy aka Joanna Cargill on the roster? This would be a good way to have an African-American character in this retro time period as a way to explore race relations and the human/mutant conflict. In the comics Frenzy is a former mutant terrorist (who followed Apocalypse and Magneto) but joined the staff of the Jean Grey School.
Polaris! Before I knew the X-Men: First Class sequel would be Days of Future Past I was hoping Magneto’s children (Polaris, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch) would appear in the sequel. Polaris aka Lorna Dane is a green haired mutant with magnetic powers and falls in love with Havok (played by Lucas Till.) Polaris is one of the most tragic characters in X-history and having her could lead to romantic scenes with Till and powerful scenes with the men who would be revealed as her father (Michael Fassbender, Ian McKellen.) I think maybe Lorna would be the mutant sent back to save the future instead of Kitty.
Halle Berry returns as Storm! Ororo joins Logan in his assault on the Sentinel HQ in the future. I would love to see Berry (and Daniel Cudmore as Colossus) join Hugh Jackman in what is one of the most gripping scenes from the comic book series as the older broken heroes go on a suicide mission to save humanity one last time.
Earlier this week Director Bryan Singer sent off the Tweet that sent the X-world buzzing: Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen would join the cast of X-Men: Days of Future Past. The new film is based on the classic story by Chris Claremont and John Byrne.
In Days of Future Pastthe surviving X-Men of the future send Kitty Pryde (Rasputin) into the body of her past self to rally the X-Men of that era to prevent an assassination. The murder leads to an apocalyptic future in which mutant hunting robots called Sentinels rule North America and have killed or imprisoned all mutants and superheroes. A much older Wolverine leads the underground resistance movement and a final assault on the Sentinel Headquarters.
With this storyline we might see Halle Berry reprise her role as Storm, Daniel Cudmore as Colossus, Ellen Page as Kitty?
Director Bryan Singer revealed Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen will join the cast of X-Men: Days of Future Past.
“Thrilled to announce @ianmckellen118 & @SirPatStew are joining the cast of #XMEN #DaysofFuturePast #magneto #professorX More to come…”
Stewart and McKellen played Professor Xavier and Magneto in the first X-Men trilogy. Singer recently replaced X-Men: First Class helmer Matthew Vaughn as director of the sequel that will be based on the classic story by Chris Claremont and John Byrne.
In Days of Future Past the surviving X-Men of the future send Kitty Pryde (Rasputin) into the body of her past self to rally the X-Men of that era to prevent an assassination. The murder leads to an apocalyptic future in which Sentinels rule North America and have killed or imprisoned all mutants and superheroes.
This storyline leaves open the opportunity for Hugh Jackman (and other members of the original trilogy cast) to join the cast since a much older Wolverine leads the underground resistance movement in the dark future.
This is UNCANNY, ASTONISHING news! I would love to see Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender in scenes together as the once and future Master of Magnetism!
In earlier tweet Singer officially welcomed back James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult to the film.
