James Bond Actor Breakdown

James Bond is a family tradition and a family business. My dad took me to my first 007 movies as a kid and we could always reflect on our favorite moments as we both got older.

007 Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli are continuing the legacy of their dad, Albert R. Broccoli. After the first official Skyfall set photo was revealed Wilson talked about the men who’ve played Bond over the years and how team Skyfall is bringing back elements that made the 007 adventures of the 60’s and 70’s such hits.

“Sean was a tough guy; he set the tone,” Wilson said. “[Roger] played it more comic. Roger was lighthearted. Timothy brought it down to earth and Pierce brought a touch of charm and touchiness.”

“[Daniel] is a great actor who takes it back to the Sean days,” Wilson said.

Did you notice no mention of George Lazenby who played Bond once in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service? I think that performance and film never gets the praise it deserves.

In an earlier story, Daniel Craig referenced From Russia, With Love and Live and Let Die as influential Bond films he enjoyed.

Thanks to MI6 for the story.

Evil Dead Remake Cast

Evil Dead movies are can’t look away flicks! I’ll be home flipping and there’s Bruce Campbell on IFC and I’m possessed like a horror nerd. Shiloh Hernandez has been cast according to Variety. When I saw his picture I thought he could be the son of Bruce Campbell.

Fede Alvarez is directing a reboot of Sam Raimi’s cult classic. If you’ve never experienced the Evil Dead, it’s about a group of young people (like in every horror movie!) in a cabin in the woods who discovers the Book of the Dead and let loose demons they can’t control. It’s not a remake and will not feature “Ash” the lead played by the great Bruce Campbell.

If this news has you shivering to see Ash’s demonic adventures here’s a link to the Evil Dead comics published by Dark Horse Comics.

Star Wars Television Series to Feature Time Bandits?

Manipulating the past has been a theme in several Star Trek episodes and the Borg Queen’s strategy in Star Trek: First Contact.  Cable, Bishop and Rachel Summers have traveled into the past to change the future in the X-Men comics.

Is the new Star Wars: Underworld television series taking a cue from other franchises and doing a time warp of their own? As previously reported producer Rick McCallum says scripts are written but the project is shelved for now due to budgetary reasons.

WARNING!!!

POSSIBLE SPOILER!!!

YOU MAY NOT WANT TO KNOW THIS CONCEPT!!!

OK HERE IT COMES….

According to a new but untested Ain’t It Cool News source, Underworld will “involve bandits acquiring the capability of time travel, and using it to travel back in time to stop Darth Vader from ever existing.”

Again this is just a rumor but it generates some interesting possibilities and ramifications for the entire series. I can imagine future rebel Jedi versus Qui-Gonn and Obi-Wan. Thanks to Spinoff Online for the story.

Kitty Pryde Pregnant Updated

Wolverine and the X-Men #5 preview art courtesy Marvel and Comic Book Resources Exclusive

It’s a double dose of Kitty Pryde’s maternal mystery this week. First Marvel gave us a preview of what looks like Kitty on the phone with Colossus.

Today Marvel gave Comic Book Resources more preview images by Nick Bradshaw of Wolverine and the X-Men #5. We don’t see Kitty in these images but Logan and Bobby refer to the fact that she’s been missing for days.

We see Beast is taking the students of the Jean Grey School inside a virtual reality tour of the mutant body for a biology lesson. This could be a follow-up to the “Things to Come” image in the back of the debut issue showing Dr. McCoy and company inside Kitty’s bloodstream.

Is Colossus the father and will this bring the romantically challenged couple together? They’ve survived death by legacy virus and eternity is a speeding bullet – but this is an X-pregancy. Stay tuned for the labor pains when #5 arrives February 8th.

The Man of Steel Gives a Super Thanks to the Military

Henry Cavill at Edwards A.F.B.

The new Superman took a break from shooting to meet, pose and sign autographs for U.S Airmen at Edwards A.F.B. More than 100 airmen lined up to meet Henry Cavill, receive a Man of Steel lithograph, and have the opportunity to take a photo with the star of The Man of Steel.

“I have such great respect for military members and what they do,” Cavill said . “It’s important that they know how valuable their service is. It is a pleasure to tell them how much they’re appreciated.”

Cavill has a strong connection to the military with two brothers currently serving; one is a tank commander and the other as a Royal Marine.

This was also a way to thank the airmen for their roles as extras or logistical support. For the entire article here’s the link to Edwards A.F.B.

Thanks to the men and women for serving our country.

Star Trek Set Photo – Update

My geek heart soared at warp speed to the Delta Quadrant and back when I saw this photo! Filming on the Star Trek sequel is underway. The first set photo of the cast and crew on the bridge of the U.S.S. Enterprise by Robert Orci. Thanks to Comic Book Movie and they’re sharp-eyed team for spotting it on Twitter. Now just please give us a hint on the villain!!! Klingons please.

Now excitment is fizzling – some friends tell me this is actually a photo from 2009 before the first film – I’ll check more. Sigh – I still hold my plea for Klingons in ST2!

Jennifer Lawrence on Hunger Games Co-Star Chemistry

X-Fans like me rejoiced this week with news that Director Matthew Vaughn and the principal cast of X-Men: First Class are signed on for a sequel to the prequel.

Before Jennifer Lawrence reprises her role as the shapeshifting Mystique she will fight for her life in The Hunger Games based on the best-selling trilogy by Suzanne Collins. Lawrence plays Katniss a girl in a dystopian world in a tournament fighting to the death against other desperate teens. The books are riveting. The movie trailer captures the dangerous atmosphere of the series. I’m surprised a publisher hasn’t started work on a graphic novel adaptation of the trilogy.

Josh Hutcherson (would made a great young Scott Summers) plays Peeta, one of the combatants in the death tournament who falls in love with Katniss. The two young stars talked with MTV News about their chemistry.

“We did a chemistry read and kind of hit it off right away, I felt, for the second time, third time,” he joked, playing up the memories of their first meeting. “So that’s the first time we got to play the characters together.”

“We had tons of chemistry,” Lawrence insisted with a laugh. “He was Peeta,” she added of her first impressions of Hutcherson as “the boy with the bread.” “I had heard the director, I had heard Gary [Ross] say, ‘He is the only one who is actually Peeta,’ and then [Josh] came in, and he was. He’s charming and nice and sweet, like a dog licking your face.”

“A dog licking on your face?” Hutcherson asked, wondering if Lawrence was giving him a compliment or not.

“It is! That’s what it’s like hanging out with you, it’s like, ‘Eeeeee!’ ” Lawrence said of her excitement being around the 19-year-old.

Avengers: The Children’s Crusade, AVX and Scarlet Witch’s Fate

Avengers The Children's Crusade #9 preview art by Jim Cheung courtesy Marvel, Comic Book Resources

When the GLAAD Best Comic Book Series Nominee Avengers: The Children’s Crusade began it marked the return of the excellent Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung on the team they created. Wiccan and Speed hoped to find, save and redeem their mother, Scarlet Witch. Their devoted teammates joined them on an adventure into Latveria through time. The heroes faces the Avengers, X-Men, X-Factor and Doctor Doom. Avengers: The Children’s Crusade is one of the most perfectly written and drawn series Marvel is publishing.

I had no idea how pivotal this story would be to the entire fate and future of the Marvel Universe. When the series ends the Scarlet Witch will be set up for her role in Avengers Versus X-Men, the return of the Phoenix Force and her possible connection to the mutant messiah, Hope Summers will be revealed.

X-Editor Nick Lowe answered fan questions on Comic Book Resources. The question I found interesting was if the Avengers Editors or X-Editors determined Wanda’s fate after Avengers: The Children’s Crusade?

“It was Allan Heinberg (with input from Tom Brevoort) mapping out Wanda’s trajectory. Allan had some great ideas on the subject and somehow Tom B. didn’t ruin them all,” Lowe responded. Brevoort is the Avengers Editor.

Will Wanda be redeemed for Avengers Disassembled and M-Day/The Decimation? Wiccan and Speed may save their mother only to see her fall in AVX. Time will tell but Heinberg and Cheung have created a real Marvel classic with Avengers: The Children’s Crusade.
