A new viral video has emerged online for a new “product” from Weyland Industries from the Alien movies. This new video is an advertisement for “David” an android played by Michael Fassbender in Prometheus.
The “David 8” Demo is voiced by Fassbender and ends with the same eerie tagline from the new full length Prometheus trailer.
This is the second viral video promoting Prometheus. The first was a TED video starring Peter Weyland.
Carol Danvers will ditch the Ms. and become the Captain in a new series announced by Marvel at Wondercon. The character will change her long blonde hair and skin bearing bathing suit for a short cut and revamped uniform.
Carol takes on the legacy of the legendary Mar-Vell in a new series by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Dexter Soy premiering this July.
“My pitch was called ‘Pilot’ and the take can pretty much be summed up with ‘Carol Danvers as Chuck Yeager,’” DeConnick tells Marvel.com. “Carol’s the virtual definition of a Type A personality. She’s a competitor and a control freak. At the start of our series, we see Carol pre-Captain Marvel, pre-NASA even, back when she was a fiercely competitive pilot. We’ll see her meeting one of her aviation heroes and we’ll see her youthful bravado, her swagger. Then over the course of the first arc we’re going to watch her find her way back to that hungry place. She’ll have to figure out how to be both Captain Marvel and Chuck Yeager—to marry the responsibility of that legacy with the sheer joy being nearly invulnerable and flying really [expletive] fast.”
“Carol has an incredible respect for Mar-Vell, as a person and as an icon,” notes DeConnick. “She is hesitant to take the name because of that. The line is something like, ‘So much has been taken from him. I won’t take his name.’ It’s on Captain America to help her understand that Captain Marvel wasn’t his name, it was his mantle. And he would have wanted her to have it.”
This Geek’s Reaction: This is not what I expected. I was sure Mar-Vell was being resurrected. I’m excited to see a great character like Carol Danvers evolve. I really like her new militaristic look in the Ed McGuinesscovers. Painter Dexter Soy has a cool style. It’s great to see a strong female writer take a popular team character into a new solo direction.
Emerald City Comicon welcomes Top Cow Founder Marc Silvestri to the 10th Annual Seattle event. The legendary artist created this year’s cover featuring Image Comics icons atop Seattle’s iconic landmark the Space Needle. The amazing illustration will be available as a print at the Top Cow booth and a t-shirt at the ECCC booth.
“ECCC is known as one of the best comic shows around and I can’t wait to hang out with the fans and share the love of comics!” said Silvestri. “I was honored when asked to do the cover for the con program to help celebrate ECCC and the 20th anniversary of Image Comics, and I couldn’t think of anything more appropriate than a West Coast version of King Kong! But, unlike the original chest-thumping ape, these Image monkeys aren’t falling off the building!”
“Marc Silvestri is a creator that our fans have been asking about for a long time,” commented ECCC Convention Director Jim Demonakos. “To not only have him appear at the show, but for him to have created this amazing piece that celebrates both Emerald City Comicon and Image Comics, is really something special.”
Thanks to Jim and ECCC for bringing such a stellar lineup of guests, stars and exclusives for this year’s 10th anniversary! See you soon!
Emma Frost may be the most sought after woman in the Marvel Universe but her heart belongs to Scott Summers. Namor, Tony Stark and Sebastian Shaw (once he regains his memory)all want the former White Queen.
Two of Marvel’s richest heroes are caught in battle in a new Avengers Vs X-Men #2 image by John Romita Jr. Emma and Tony Stark are trading quips and he’s taking a diamond packed punch.
I had predicted that an X-Woman might fall in AvX. I hope it’s not Emma. In an earlier teaser Emma was battling the Hulk. Never underestimate the former White Queen.
Nathan Fillion is a Geek God (for his roles in Firefly, Serenity, Buffy, The Vampire Slayer, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog) and now he’s play a Greek God. Fans packed Seattle’s University Village for a chance to meet the stars of The Hunger Games who will play Katniss, Peeta and Gale. Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth made young fans erupt into a frenzy like tributes arriving in the Capitol. This was the finale of a mall tour to promote the upcoming adaptation of the first book in the trilogy by Suzanne Collins.
The first 100 fans won the golden ticket. Some families had been waiting more than 24 hours for this opportunity. These most devoted fans came to be face to face with the stars of the book they love and went home with an autographed poster in an exclusive session inside the Microsoft Store. Some girls were overcome and walked away trembling and sobbing uncontrollably into the arms of their smiling parents.
You could feel the anticipation and excitement as hundreds waited outside for the live Q & A session to begin. Sudden waves of screams and panic erupted with the possibility that the stars could arrive at any moment. When the actors did exit the Microsoft Store and move onto the stage the adoring fans absolutely lost control. Screams were deafening. Declarations of love for Josh or Liam pierced through the madness.
Local girls asked Josh to be their prom date. Jennifer was asked the preference of which co-star is hotter. We learned Jennifer did her own shooting movie. The actress learned archery to display the skills of Katniss in the arena.
In an earlier interview session I asked the leads did they imagine the insanity of the tour, the passion of the fans and rock star treatment they’re being showered with now. Josh Hutcherson reacted to the screaming and sighing but “just wants to make a great movie and hope they like it.”
The majority of elated fans were on Team Gale or Team Peeta. I asked Jennifer Lawrence about the relationship between Katniss and Cinna, the stylist who becomes her mentor. While filming X-Men: First Class Lawrence (who played Raven/Mystique) became friends with co-star Zoe Kravitz (who played Angel) and developed a friendship with her dad, rock star Lenny Kravitz. She says that helped their on-screen rapport.
Woody Harrelson plays Haymitch Abernathy. The Hunger Games champion of District 12 must train Katniss and Peeta. I asked the young cast about the charismatic actor and his performance. Liam Hemsworth shared that Haymitch was his favorite character.
The screams and shouts of love echoed even as the stars waved goodbye. The young leads thrilled the audience and made teen dreams come true. The Hunger Games opens March 23rd.
While promoting The Cabin in the Woods and checking on Alan Silvestri’s score for The Avengers, Joss Whedon talked with Empire magazine. Sharp eyed fans noticed Tony Stark’s armor on the Empire cover is different from his solo films. The director confirmed Tony will have more than one suit in the film.
“Marvel said, ‘We like to see the suits evolve,'” he says, “and I said, “Great! Then you’re going back to the circle because the triangle is ass’. I’m a classicist. The circle has meaning, the triangle does not.”
Check out the clever clip here.
Marvel’s The Avengersis out on May 4th. The Cabin In The Woods starring Chris Hemsworth (Thor) scares up audiences on April 13.
