Here are the big highlights and new number one issues from DC Comics titles coming in August:

All-Star Batman #1 by Scott Snyder and John Romita Jr. reimagine the Dark Knight’s greatest villains in this brand new series.

Get ready for a full throttle blast of DC’s Worst. Heroes. Ever.

After Suicide Squad hits the big screen, the team will take over book comic shops.

Just in time for the anticipated summer film, August will see the return of the worst heroes ever in quartet of SUICIDE SQUAD tales, including a all-new SUICIDE SQUAD main title with art by DC Co-Publisher Jim Lee, the return of legendary writer/creator John Ostrander to Task Force X on a new one-shot and a new cast of characters debuting in the SUICIDE SQUAD: MOST WANTED anthology book.

SUICIDE SQUAD MOST WANTED: EL DIABLO AND BOOMERANG #1 begins a new monthly six-issue mini-series on August 10th featuring a lead story starring El Diablo written by Jai Nitz and a series of shorter second features by writers graduating from the just-completed inaugural class of DC’s Writers Workshop. Issues 1-2 will feature Boomerang (SUICIDE SQUAD MOST WANTED: EL DIABLO AND BOOMERANG) by Michael Moreci, issues 3-4 will feature Killer Croc (SUICIDE SQUAD MOST WANTED: EL DIABLO AND KILLER CROC) by Chris Sebela and issues 5-6 will feature Amanda Waller (SUICIDE SQUAD MOST WANTED: EL DIABLO AND AMANDA WALLER) by Vita Ayala. Hurray for Harleywood!

Harley Quinn makes her big screen debut in Suicide Squad in August. Warner Brothers is already betting big on the villain. Margot Robbie will star and produce a Harley Quinn spinoff movie according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The twist is the new film is not a Harley Quinn solo movie but will include other female DC Comics heroes including Batgirl and Birds of Prey according to the story. No official word from the studio.

Suicide Squad also introduces villains Katana and Enchantress in the film along with Amanda Waller, head of Task Force X.

Harley Quinn stars in her own solo comic book, Suicide Squad book and multiple limited series including team-ups her with Power Girl and in Harley’s Little Black Book, the character teamed up with several icons including Wonder Woman and a book with her own Gang of Harleys.

The character first appeared in the Batman Animated Series as the girlfriend of the Joker. The Clown Prince of Crime drove his own psychiatrist insane and Dr. Harleen Quinzel became Harley Quinn. The fan-favorite character joined the comic book mythology and rivals Batman when it comes to number of comic book titles featuring the villainess turned anti-heroine. VALIANT AnnouncesTHE FIST & THE STEEL

Ninjak and The Eternal Warrior blast into the future as “THE FIST & THE STEEL” for a sword-swinging standalone adventure this summer.

Valiant announced via Comic Vine,  “THE FIST & THE STEEL” – an new story and all-new jumping point for two of its biggest heroes. It begins this August in NINJAK #18.

“Many years from today, see where the battle-scarred road has taken Valiant’s deadliest operative as writer Matt Kindt and acclaimed artists Khari Evans and Andres Guinaldo deploy a seasoned Colin King into an unknown tomorrow! He may not be as fast or as strong as he once was, but with the Eternal Warrior at his side, Ninjak will show the world that his steel is as sharp as ever! X-MEN IN SPACE MOVIE?

X-Men: Apocalypse is not the end of the X-franchise.

Producer Simon Kinberg said the series will jump 10 years into the ’90’s in the next sequel but will the mutants leap into outer space?

X-Men First Class was in the Cold War ’60’s, Days of Future Past reset the timeline with a story set in the 1970’s and future, Apocalypse rises in the ’80’s.

Director Bryan Singer hints at what’s possible with the X-Men movies including deep space travel for Xavier’s students.

MISSING From CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

Marvel rules the global box-office again with Captain America: Civil War. Steve Rogers vs Tony Stark is a dark turn in the Marvel Cinematic Universe setting up the future of Black Panther, Spider-Man and a divided Avengers as a certain super villain plots his universal domination.

Thanos will strike in Avengers Infinity War I & II after playing the secret manipulator in previous films Avengers, Thor and Guardians of the Galaxy. Earlier films included hints of the villain’s quest to collect the Infinity gems.

MARVEL HEROES For NETFLIX Shows For Your Consideration

Marvel recently confirmed the Punisher will spin off from Daredevil to become the next hero to headline a Netflix series. Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as Frank Castle for the next Marvel/Netflix collaboration following Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and  Defenders will be a limited series starring all the heroes.

You could call these heroes part of Marvel’s “street-level” cast of characters. Which other Marvel heroes could join these gritty vigilantes in the Marvel Universe with their own Netflix series?
