Secret Avengers #22 Hawkeye Shoots, Remender Scores

Secret Avengers #22 preview art by Gabriel Hardman courtesy Marvel.com

Rick Remender and Gabriel Hardman take control of Secret Avengers with issue 22. this week. Hawkeye takes control of the covert team and puts Captain Britain in his place.

When acts of terror erupt in the world’s trouble spots the covert team races into action. Remender previewed the seeds for this conspiracy with this Father Files. The final panel is a shocker that makes me think Hawkeye and company are way in over their heads.

My two favorite things about this issue: 1. Gabriel Hardman’s art is gritty and propels the story. The work reminds of Butch Guice. Hardman’s still is perfect for Hawkeye and Black Widow – not exactly what you would think of for a super hero like Captain Britain but it’s excellent. 2. Hawkeye’s ego busting of Brian Braddock. Both guys are brash. Both think they’re the new team leader until Clint takes down the Protector of the Omniverse. I really look forward to the interaction between these guy moving forward.

I definitely recommend Secret Avengers #22. The new team delivers. And Venom joins the action next issue. You should read Remender’s The Father Files on this site or Marvel.com to see how he’s building a whole new evil based on Marvel’s most famous and infamous robots.

AvX Iron Fist & The Phoenix Force?

New Avengers #26 courtesy Marvel.com

When you think Iron First you think of dragons but the martial arts master may have a connection to the fiery Phoenix too!

Marvel gave Comics Newsarama this exclusive first look preview of New Avengers # 26. Iron Fist appears to be shielding Hope Summers (from Avengers who want to seize her?)

This is a new piece of the Iron Fist/Phoenix puzzle. Here’s the link to see New Avengers #25 featuring Danny Rand bursting with a Phoenix energy signature.

The preview includes this: “The secret history of the Phoenix is revealed in K’un Lun’s book of the dead Iron Fists. One of the most important chapters in the AVX story.”

DC’s Big Three but from Earth Two! The Source revealed cover to the upcoming DC Comics New 52 Second Wave title Earth 2. Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are in heated battle (with Darkseid’s warriors?) in this variant cover by Ivan Reis and Joe Prado.

DC Covers Up Power Girl

World's Finest #1 courtesy DC Comics

World’s Finest stars Power Girl and the Huntress from Earth 2. They duo are trapped in our world and the DC Comics New 52 Second Wave series follows their quest to return home.

The Source revealed the George Perez cover today and you’ll notice Power Girl is covered up! The blonde heroine is known for her costume sporting a big o in her chest displaying her cleavage and the suit is a one piece bathing suit with bare legs but covered up arms. Helena’s Huntress costume looks the same.

Guess this new Power Girl is a little more reserved compared to her pre-New 52 version.

AvX: Rogue Vs She-Hulk

X-Men Legacy #266 courtesy Marvel

I was psyched for a Rogue/Ms. Marvel clash given their tragic history together. Marvel delivered a new green vs green matchup!

This X-Men Legacy #266 cover features Rogue fighting She-Hulk! I earlier predicted a Carol Danvers win against Rogue but after seeing Rogue’s fighting and tactical thinking lately I think she can tackle Jennifer.

The Mark Brooks cover was featured first on Comics Newsarama.

AvX Chasing Hope

Avengers Vs. X-Men #4 courtesy Marvel

The mutant messiah is at the center of the Marvel Universe as two superteams are after her. One to protect her. One to destroy her?

This is the cover to Avengers Vs X-Men #4 by one of my favorite artist, Jim Cheung of Avengers: The Children’s Crusade.

Hope Summer is giving off what could be the Phoenix image as she is appears to chase by both X-Men and Avengers.

Marvel revealed this and more AVX #1 interior pages to Comics Newsarama but this is a cover I had to share with you.

Get ready to crank “Somebody Save Me…”and feel like the show never ended!

DC Comics The Source announced SMALLVILLE SEASON 11 by former Smallville show writer Bryan Q. Miller, the new digital first series will be published digitally on April 13, 2012, with new digital chapters released weekly thereafter.  The online chapters will be offered in a print periodical, along with an episode guide to the hit television series, with the first print issue released on May 16.

The new comic book series continues where the show ended (with Clark officially now as Superman) and along with fan-favorites Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, Chloe Sullivan-Queen, Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, and General Lane.  The book features an all-star creative team – including print cover artist Gary Frank, digital cover artist Cat Staggs and interiors by Pere Perez.

“Six months after Clark Kent donned the cape and took to the skies to save Earth from Apokolips… enter Season 11!” declares Miller.  “New allies abound!  New enemies afoot!  And old friends return where they’re least expected!  Pere and colorist Chris Beckett have done a fantastic job of capturing the look of the show and the players, and Gary and Cat are knocking it out of the park on covers. I couldn’t be more excited to help give seasoned viewers and new readers an all-access pass to Clark’s first year in the cape.”

Congratulations to patient Smallville fans! Enjoy1

DC’s Next Teenage Dream: First Look at The Ravagers

The Ravagers #1 courtesy DC Comics

The Ravagers rocket out of stories currently in Teen Titans and Superboy. The DC Comics New 52 Second Wave title is by Howard Mackie and Ian Churchill. Today The Source gave fans a first look at the teen team.

“This is the story about a group of powerful Metahuman teens who have escaped from an underground hell they know only as The Colony– where they have been tortured, experimented on, tortured again and forced to fight for survival in a nefarious program designed to produce the ultimate killing machines. They band together in search of anything that might pass as “real life” for each of them, and knowing that the dark forces behind N.O.W.H.E.R.E. will never let them achieve it,” Howard Mackie explains.

Here’s The Source link with all the info on The Ravagers and more from Mackie.
