Taylor Kitsch as Daredevil?

Will Taylor Kitsch trade in his John Carter loincloth for red leather and horns? Kitsch is reportedly being considered for Director David Slade’s reboot of Daredevil according to Movie Hole. The story is part of their hilarious feature on actors who nearly won super hero roles.

Kitsch said he would like to play X-Man Gambit again but said it’s unlikely that would happen. The story says Xavier Samuel is under consideration too. Slade directed Samuel as the vampire Riley in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

Thanks to Comic Book Resources.

When I think of David Slade’s film (Hard Candy, 30 Days of Night) I envision a dark and gritty Daredevil movie based on Frank Miller’s Born Again.

If this report is true the studio seems to be going for a young Matt Murdock reboot like Sony did with Amazing Spider-Man. The tone may be different too. Mark Waid’s new take on Daredevil has been a critical and fan hit. I really love the artwork on the new title – especially this cover.

Marvel and Chris Evans (Fantastic Four’s Johnny Storm, Captain America)proved you have movie magic twice with the same actor.

While this Daredevil story is just speculation – what do you think of the idea of Taylor Kitsch as Daredevil?

Night of the Owls: Batgirl Vs. Talon

courtesy DC Comics

Batgirl will face the wrath of the Court of Owls when Night of the Owls crosses into all the Batman family of books.

Greg Capullo reveals his latest Talon design on The Source. This is an enforcer from the 1940’s that will clash with Batgirl and as you can see by the design – this is the first female Talon.

“Scott’s (Snyder) direction was she was an African-American female,” said Capullo. “I freely admit that the design of the breastplate was inspired by the fact that she had breasts.”

Night of the Owls begins this May.

Daredevil’s New Artist and Time for Lovin’

Artist Chris Samnee (Ultimate Spider Man) will join Mark Waid on the acclaimed Daredevil with issue 12. Marvel revealed the news today along with this racy Paulo Rivera cover and news that Matt Murdock will make time for assistant district attorney Kirsten McDuffie. It may be lawyers in love this May but somebody should warn Kirsten about Matt’s not so stellar track record with romance.

X-Men Vs. Skrulls II

X-Men #29 courtesy Marvel.com

Does the impeding Avengers Vs. X-Men epic have you longing for events past? X-Men #29 is just what the event addict ordered. In Marvel’s May solicit for the issue by Victor Gischler and Will Conrad, relive Secret Invasion when the Skrulls conquered Earth.

In X-Men #29 a team of the shapeshifters infiltrates the X-Men. Pixie is taken hostage “or did she go by choice?”

I loved all of Secret Invasion especially the X-Men limited series. I wouldn’t mind some more Skrull-crushing!

Astonishing GLBT X-Men In Action

Astonishing X-Men #50 courtesy Marvel.com

Marjorie Liu and Mike Perkins are the new team on Astonishing X-Men. The lineup includes Wolverine, Iceman, Gambit, Warbird, Karma and Northstar. With the cancellation of Alpha Flight I had hoped Marvel would bring Jean Paul back to the X-Men. Northstar is at the Jean Grey School and he’s continuing his relationship with boyfriend Kyle.

I call Astonishing X-Men the title to watch for next year’s GLAAD Media Awards for Outstanding Comic Book. In the solicit for May’s issue Liu is keeping Karma and Northstar pivotal to the first arc.

The mutant with mind possession power is losing control over her own. How will the X-Men stop Karma from taking control over her teammates. Northstar’s boyfriend Kyle is in danger. Will Jean Paul be forced to choose between him or his team. Plus Marvel promises that his issue’s ending will “be the most talked about moment of the year!”

Robert Downey Jr as Lex Luthor?

Iron Man from Marvel.com

Some things are just cosmic. What if Robert Downey Jr never played Tony Stark/Iron Man because he was already committed to playing Lex Luthor?

Director McG revealed to The Playlist his vision for the Superman reboot that never was. Superman: Flyby was scripted by a younger J.J. Abrams.

“We had Robert Downey Jr. locked up to be Lex Luthor,” he says, “which I think would have been extraordinary. Ironically, we liked Henry Cavill a lot, but we hadn’t cast him yet. J.J. wrote the script, and we got that to a really good place in the end. But I’m to blame [for the film not happening].”

Scarlett Johansson and Selma Blair were reportedly in talks for Lois Lane. Johansson went on to play Black Widow in Iron Man and The Avengers.

Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns starring Brandon Routh and Kevin Spacey became the next reboot instead. Singer didn’t direct X-Men 3 for that film.

Downey Jr went on to play another rich genius in Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Marvel’s The Avengers and Iron Man 3.

Zach Snyder’s The Man of Steel starring Henry Cavill -minus Lex Luthor – opens July 2013.

Did things work out for the best? Or do you wish McG’s Superman with Robert Downey Jr. as Luthor had flown? And it’s impossible to imagine but who could have played Tony Stark?

Thanks to Total Film for the story.

AvX: Cyclops at the Jean Grey School

Wolverine and the X-Men #10 courtesy Marvel.com

Cyclops is coming to the Jean Grey School but not to be a guest professor. The Extinction team leader goes to the school in Wolverine and the X-Men #10 but will the staff and students join Scott against the Avengers?

Schism tore X-Men apart. I can see how the return of the Phoenix will equally divide Logan’s school family of mutants. Rachel Grey has a huge connection to the entity and this could bring back feelings of her mom and make her want to support Scott.

If that’s not enough of a reason check out this issue – the May solicit promised Iceman Vs. Red Hulk! Good thing Bobby has reached a new level of power. I’d love to see Iceman go all Omega Level and take out RULK!

AVX: An Avenger’s Betrayal

Avengers #26 courtesy Marvel

“An Avenger must betray the team to fill their destiny with the Phoenix.”

Brian Michael Bendis is joined by the legendary Walter Simonson on Avengers #26. This tie in to Avengers Vs. X-Men is called a “game-changer for the Avengers franchise…and it’s not who you think,” according to the just released May 2012 solicits.

The cover shows Thor and Protector (I think that’s him) fighting so does this mean the Asgardian or Kree will betray the team?

Remember Thor was on the cover of Secret Avengers #26 on what was hailed as a suicide mission in space to confront the Phoenix. Does Thor learn something in on that mission to change his allegiance?

And don’t forget the New Avengers #25 and #26 cover showing Iron Fist apparently feeling the Phoenix Force and defending Hope Summers.

For all of Marvel’s May solicits click here.

It’s easy to think Wolverine, Beast, or Storm will be the Avengers that side with their fellow mutants, but time to rethink the cosmic connections between certain Avengers and Phoenix entity.
