Raising Hellions in New Mutants

New Mutants #47 courtesy Marvel

A blast from the past in this week’s New Mutants #47 in Fear the Fututre Part 1. Andy Lanning and Dan Abnett ignite an old rivalry by raising the Hellions!

Back when Emma Frost was still the White Queen of the Hellfire Club she had her own students that often clashed with Professor Xavier’s New Mutants. The original Hellions debuted in New Mutants #16 – volume one of the series. In Uncanny X-Men #281 the Hellions were brutally slain by Trevor Fitzroy and his Sentinels. This massacre led Frost to see their error of her ruthless ways and began her path to redemption and partnership with the X-Men. Empath was the only known survivor. Warpath was an original member of the Hellions because he blamed Professor X for the death of his brother, the original Thunderbird. James Proudstar eventually came to terms with his anger and later joined the X-Men and Wolverine’s X-Force.

Some of the dead Hellions were revised by Selene in the Necrosha epic. No word on

You can see the old school Hellions on the cover of New Mutants #48  Marvel.com New Mutants #48.

The Hellions are back (looking all techno zombie resurrected like they did in the Necrosha event!) For more of the Abnett and Lanning interview here’s the Marvel.com link.

Here’s an earlier post talking about the possibility of a New Mutants movie, my hope some of the characters appear in the next X-Men: First Class film and The Hunger Games star who’d be perfect for one of the kids.

Spider-Woman Joins Avengers Assemble and Avengers Sequel?

courtesy Marvel.com

After a week of reveals the Marvel tease machine cranked back up with a new image that sparks a ton of speculation over the future of the Avengers and which new hero may join an Avengers 2 sequel.

This Marvel.com teaser looks like Kelly Sue DeConnick (Captain Marvel) and Stefano Caselli are taking over Avengers Assemble in November. This is the “movie friendly version” of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes book.

Could this be a sign that Spider-Woman may join the lineup in the Avengers 2 sequel or series being developed by Joss Whedon?

Editor in Chief Axel Alonso did say Spider-Woman will remain part of the Avengers and may turn up in Avengers Assemble. And this fuels my hope that Mila Kunis play Jessica Drew on the big screen!

Bruce Banner’s Oh —- Moment in Indestructible Hulk #1

Indestructible Hulk #1 courtesy Marvel

It’s been a huge week of Marvel NOW! relaunch books and creative team announcements. Marvel NOW! was THE topic facing Editor in Chief Axel Alonso in this week’s Axel in Charge on Comic Book Resources – a must for every Marvel fan.

Mark Waid and Leinil Yu on The Indestructible Hulk was a big reveal. Banner and the Green Goliath will be working together and working for SHIELD? Waid is winning raves reviews for his take on Daredevil so how will Waid make his Hulk different after years of different versions on the Marvel classic. I loved Alonso’s answer.

“What Bruce Banner does in issue #1 is both a long overdue and an “oh $#!%!” moment. It sets a trajectory for years worth of stories that are different from anything we’ve done in the past. The Hulk is my personal favorite of the big-league super heroes – which, I guess, says a lot about me since he’s all about anger management issues [Laughs] – and I’m personally excited to see how Mark and Leinil’s story unfolds. I’m confident that anyone who reads issue #1 is going to stick around for the long haul.”

What will Banner do? Find out this November!

I’m still intrigued about the floating robot head that looks like Widget from Excalibur on the cover!

Superman #14 courtesy DC Comics

Get ready for a Kryptonian Clash! Superman, Superboy and Supergirl. Three heroes. One alien enemy. One big crossover. DC Comics revealed the #14 issues of all those series will featured in a battle against H’el, an alien with a “pro-Krypton, anti-Earth plan.”

Superboy #14 by Tom DeFalco with art by R.B. Silva and Rob Lean guest stars Supergirl and the Teen Titans.

In Supergirl #14 by Mike Johnson and Madmud Asrar, Kara encounters H’el but is she on his side?

And in Superman #14 Scott Lobdell and Kenneth Rocafort, the Man of Steel faces H’el.

DC is calling H’el a “creature of unknown Kryptonian origin who is not only more powerful than Superman, but is also smarter than Supergirl and more lethal than Superboy.”

H’el hits Earth this November.
