Chris Evans suits up again as the First Avenger in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The next film will add Anthony Mackie as the heroic Falcon and Frank Grillo as evil muscle man Crossbones.

Emily Van Camp (Revenge) may be playing SHIELD Agent Sharon Carter. All the buzz about the casting of Cap’s girlfriend inspired sinister visions of who should play the raging redheaded she-devil from Cap’s rogues gallery!  If Crossbones is in the sequel then will the Red Skull’s psychotic daughter (and Crossbones’s lover/partner) join the film?

Who should play Sinthea Schmidt aka SIN? Here are five redheads who could really embody pure evil as the Red Skull’s daughter:

REVENGE Star As CAPTAIN AMERICA 2’s Leading Lady?

Has Marvel found Steve Rogers’s modern-day love interest? Sharon Carter (aka Agent 13 of SHIELD) is the descendant of Steve’s World War II love interest Peggy Carter. Emily Van Camp of ABC’s Revenge has been cast as Sharon in Captain America: The Winter Soldier according to Deadline.

Van Camp plays Emily Thorne (real name Amanda Walker) on the hit series about a young woman seeking vengeance on the family that destroyed her father’s reputation and had him killed. This season the soap has ramped up the spy elements as Emily and her partner (who they jokingly call James Bond on the show because of his accent and skills) try to thwart the plans of a sinister society.

Looks like this season has been practice if Van Camp is really signed on to play the SHIELD agent opposite Chris Evans!

Chris Hemsworth as the Odinson returns to Asgard in Thor: The Dark World. Marvel shared the first picture from the set of Hemsworth in costume with director Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones.) The sequel introduces the Malekith (played by former Doctor Who Christopher Eccleston) and the Dark Elves to the movie mythology. Here’s the official synopsis:

Logan goes to Japan in The Wolverine. The berserker mutant trades in his leather uniform for a James Bond style suit in this new image courtesy Empire.

Producer Hutch Parker revealed more about the plot in this new issue.

“We pick up Logan in a very isolated state, full of self-loathing. He is sought out by a young Asian woman for reasons he doesn’t fully understand, who is asking him to follow her to Japan where he is meant to reconnect with someone from his past.

“And what you’ll come to find is that this is someone he spent prison-time with in Nagasaki. And the legacy of that experience – effectively Logan saved him – is that this man is on his deathbed, and is looking to give him a gift, to thank him for the life he’s had.”

“But this gift draws Logan into a very complex and very unexpected world within both contemporary Japan and, to some extent, the feudal history of Japan. He’s so in isolation, so out of his element. It’s a much more powerful distillation of his character than you’ve seen before.”

New Avengers #3 courtesy Marvel
New Avengers #3 courtesy Marvel

Professor Xavier is dead but the X-Men founder is back in New Avengers #3. The new series by Jonathan Hickman and Steve Epting stars a new version of Marvel’s biggest brains – the Illuminati. The late Charles Xavier was a member of the original gathering of Marvel’s most powerful leaders. The new brotherhood is gathering the Infinity Gems in an effort to stop alternate universes from crushing ours.

Is this a secret the telepath buried in the Beast’s mind or is Henry McCoy engaging in more time travel like he did in the first arc of All-New X-Men? (Just in case you missed it – Beast brought back the original five X-Men into the present Marvel Now!)

I wanted to share some of this Comics Newsarama exclusive preview of the next issue.

As the pages reveal – the Professor has left a trail for Beast to follow. Could this be the key to saving the Earth? Could this lead to the resurrection of Professor X?

Doomsday from John Byrne!

Legendary creator John Byrne (X-Men, Fantastic Four, She-Hulk, Next Men) goes apocalyptic in a brand new series from IDW Publishing this May. What if you could watch the world burn but were helpless to stop it? Astronauts watch as the Earth is torched by solar flares in Doomsday.1.

“I’ve been thinking for some time that I would like to revisit a post-apocalypse kind of scenario, such as was seen in my very first ‘dramatic’ work in comics, but this time without the more obvious fantasy elements of that original series (mermaids, alien robots, frozen mammoths, etc.),” said Byrne. “When bits and pieces of this new series first started to percolate around in my head, I knew almost at once the shape that ‘revisit’ would take; something in the ‘All-New, All-Different’ vein. And the first time I doodled some images of my ‘crew,’ I knew I was there!”

SUPERMAN UNBOUND Against Brainiac!

Superman soars on the big screen in Man of Steel but you can watch a modern classic Superman story on the small screen at home! Henry Cavill will face off against General Zod (Michael Shannon) but the Kryptonian born hero faces a different arch enemy in Superman Unbound.

In this Nerdist Exclusive preview of the upcoming movie we see Superman, Supergirl, the invasion of Kandor and one of my favorite villians: Brainiac!

The animated film is based on the Geoff Johns Action Comics story. Brainiac started out as a green guy in a pink suit but evolved into a monstrous machine capable of wiping out planets.

Take a look:

Matt Bomer (White Collar) is the voice of the Man of Steel in this film. John Noble (Fringe, Lord of the Rings) is the Brainiac.

Thanks to the mighty Nerdist – a MUST for nerds!
