They’ve always been there providing a refuge where you can escape the world and find kindred minds.

Before nerd became mainstream, before geek became global – local comic book shops have long been the source where to find new and classic adventures of iconic super heroes and discover new characters to cheer, cry and scream with and at.

Before movies came comics. Many of the writers and artists who inspired today’s biggest box-office hits were inspired in the racks at small stores. Now fans can share in the source of power that fuels our favorite movies and shows.

Saturday, November 19th is the second Local Comic Shop Day across America. This event celebrates independent comic book specialty stores and their role as the foundation of medium. Continue reading LOCAL COMIC SHOP DAY 2016

Who is that?!

Even this lifelong X-Fan was scratching my head with this week’s Death of X #3 as a minor character the past is recruited by Cyclops for a big league return and will play a huge role in the upcoming war between the X-Men and Inhumans.

Death of X is revealing the origin of the IvX conflict, the fate of Cyclops and Emma Frost and more of what happened in the eight months following the Secret Wars finale and All-New, All-Different Marvel Now Extraordinary X-Men launch.

The four-part series by Charles Soule, Jeff Lemire and Aaron Kuder already featured the return of several missing in action mutants and the death of a fan-favorite. Along with Cyclops and Emma Frost we have witnessed the return of mutants from multiple eras including Wolfsbane, Warpath, Goldballs and the Stepford Cuckoos.

In part three Cyclops recruits a character not seen in decades for his master plan to save the mutant race. Who is this mutant? Continue reading DEATH OF X Surprise X-MEN Comeback

Is there a new Hulk in Marvel comics?

In the long history of the Green Goliath the monster has not always been the Incredible Hulk.

As we enter a new era in the aftermath of Civil War II we have three or is it four Hulks?

Amadeus Cho is the Totally Incredible Hulk.

RULK aka Red Hulk (Thunderbolt Ross) is member of the U.S. Avengers.

Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk will star in a new Hulk book in 2017.

We do not want to spoil the fate of Bruce Banner in Civil War II but have you seen Uncanny Avengers #16? Continue reading HULK to ZULK?

Doctor Strange featured comics canon Easter eggs, cameos and massive ties to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The latest Phase Three film opened doors to new dimensions, introduced new villains but how did it wrap into the big cosmic conspiracy weaving through all the Marvel movies?

I love when non-comic reading but Marvel movie fans come to me wanting to know more about the comics and asking those geektastic questions like, “wasn’t that a stone like in the other movies? That’s part of a bigger thing right?”

Yes, I respond enthusiastically and dive in.

Nearly every film has one common element that will lead to Avengers: Infinity War: Infinity Stones.

In the comics Thanos gathered these six stones on a cosmic Gauntlet and unleashed Death (an actual entity he worships) across the Marvel universe.

Where are those stones and how does Doctor Strange fit into the quest for pieces of the ultimate weapon? Continue reading MARVEL Movies INFINITY Update
