A comic book summer blockbuster is on the way. This big-screen epic is actual a big-page exploding at your local comic book shop! Marvel shared a new trailer for INFINITY!

The six-part series by Jonathan Hickman, Jim Cheung, Jerome Opena and Dustin Weaver begins in August. Here’s how Marvel describes the story:

“Earth has been marked as an “Avengers World”, protected by Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and more from the deadliest threats facing humanity. A powerful and destructive race is on a collision course with Earth and the only thing in their path is the Avengers! But even Earth’s Mightiest Heroes realize the one hope of defeating this dire threat is to unite every great hero across the cosmos…because only with a united Avengers Universe is there any chance of survival!

With our heroes at the other end of the universe, who is left to protect Earth? Enter Thanos, the galaxy’s most ruthless threat and an unparalleled force of brutality who brings order to the chaos of life through murder. The greatest threat to the Mad Titan’s work—and perhaps the universe’s greatest hope—is something he created leaving no world safe. Earth’s last hope may lie in the hands of a man who can level cities with a single whisper – Black Bolt, king of the Inhumans. But can the fearsome leader of a race hated and feared by his world, lead his people against Thanos? If they fall, so does the Earth—and the entire universe with it.”

The Joker has been a man without a face since DC Comics rebooted The New 52. Batman’s greatest enemy had his face carved off in Detective Comics #1. A year later Joker launches a horrific campaign against the Dark Knight and his allies in Batman: Death of the Family.

DC Comics Editor Bob Harris share this first look at an earlier Joker designed by Andy Clarke and teases a story of the rogue’s past:

“During Villains Month, witness an untold tale of The Joker that takes place before any of the #1 issues in DC COMICS-THE NEW 52. Written by Andy Kubert and illustrated by Andy Clarke, this unique one-shot will not only hint at a possible origin for The Joker, but will also feature the origin of a classic Batman villain who folks might not suspect as having ties to the Clown Prince of Crime.” Continue reading The Joker’s Origin in Villains Month?

Wolverine and the Avengers feared the worst and wanted to take Hope into custody. Cyclops and the X-Men believed the Phoenix and Hope could save the mutant race from extinction. One group saw death. BATMAN INCORPORATED #12 Review

Batman, Incorporated #12 courtesy DC Comics

Talia Al Ghul may now be the most cruel villain in comic book history. Grant Morrison and Chris Burnham deliver the most bloody and twisted chapter yet in the war between Bruce Wayne and the devil’s daughter in Batman, Incorporated #12.

Bruce is relentless in his quest to stop Leviathan and get revenge for the death of his son. The words are few, the action is swift, the visuals are powerful and visceral. Grant Morrison chooses his words like weapons. There’s no “pow” or “bam” in this Batman. Burnham makes you feel every bone-crunching, skin-mauling act of violence. Batman and the Heretic’s epic battle feels like an operatic war of Angels of Heaven and Hell. This issue delivers the battle you’ve been craving since Damian Wayne was killed. You feel Bruce’s anger and wrath unleashed on Robin’s killer. As Bruce’s allies join the climatic battle, Talia’s most horrific family secret is revealed.

This is Grant Morrison’s penultimate issue but he’s still starting new mysteries for future writers to explore. You feel like you’ve watched a massive movie within this one issue. Batman, Incorporated appears to be destroyed. Gotham City is set to “die.” It all comes down to Talia and Bruce one-on-one…for one last time?

Here’s a preview of Batman, Incorporated #13 – the final chapter by Grant Morrison.
