Image Comics revealed a huge rundown of new creator-owned projects coming in 2014. At the Image Comics Expo – the publisher celebrated a year of creator-owned successes and huge sales while fans can celebrate the next wave of new projects from some of the biggest creators in comics.

 

The biggest announcement: Ed Brubaker (Fatale, Criminal, Velvet) and Sean Phillips (Incognito, Sleeper) and Image Comics signed an unprecedented deal in comics publishing, a five year deal to do anything they want with total freedom, total control, and total ownership over their projects. One day after their finale of Young Avengers, artist Jamie McKelvie shares this preview image of his next collaboration with writer Kieron Gillen via Twitter.

The X-Men’s secret weapon (and often comic relief for fans) gets the spotlight in All-New Doop #1. Co-creators Peter Milligan (writer) and Mike Allred (artist) reunite for this insider look of what else happened during X-Men: Battle of the Atom.  Allred creates the cover while David La Fuente provides interior art.

Evan Peters (American Horror Story) bring mutant speedster to life in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

 

Comic Book Movie posted this first look at Peters (along with Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy) in costume from the upcoming film.

1. Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier

 

I sighed when Bucky’s solo series ended last year but Captain America’s sidekick turned deadly enemy turned ally will have a huge 2014.

On the big screen Sebastian Stan reprises his role as Bucky in Captain America: The Winter Soldier coming April 4. The Star-Spangled Avenger’s sequel is based on my all-time favorite Cap stories by Ed Brubaker.

Bucky co-stars in the All-New Invaders by James Robinson. The World War II heroes reunite against the Kree in the upcoming book.
