A strong start for the new creative team on the book that launched Batman.
Detective Comics #30 is the first issue by Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato.
It opens with a mother and daughter – outsiders in Gotham City. I was invested in Elena and Annie’s story and characters. Elena’s manipulation of Bruce Wayne into helping her rebuild a crime-ridden waterfront area of Gotham shows she’s smart and resourceful.  In many ways she is a mirror version of Bruce. Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) was a skinny kid from Brooklyn with a big heart, sense of honor and desire to serve his country in World War II. Given the code name Captain America – Steve would defeat the Red Skull’s Hydra invasion but with a price. Steve crashed the Hydra plane into the ice and would be frozen in time.  Steve was revived by S.H.I.EL.D. and would lead Earth’s Mightiest Heroes against an alien invasion in The Avengers. If you’re coming in brand new or you’re an old school fan of Black Bolt and Medusa like myself you will be amazed by this gorgeous, fast paced first issue. Charles Soule and Joe Madureira create a compelling, kinetic story of new heroes and villains.
