Captain Marvel welcomes a long-lost favorite character from the X-Men universe this week.

Carol Danvers rocks out with Lila Cheney, intergalactic rock and roll diva and the mutant who once tried to steal the Earth!

The fan-favorite Avenger has been on patrol in outer space in her latest volume by Kelly Sue DeConnick and David Lopez.

Space is big but Carol’s X-Men connection is close so her solo series is a fun way to introduce the Carol Corps to this unique anti-hero.

Who is Lila Cheney? Lila is a creation of the legendary New Mutants team of Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod back in 1984.

Lila is a singer from England who performed with Dazzler back in her waning disco days. She’s a mutant with the power to teleport but only over vast intergalactic distances. Lila used her power to become an outer space rock star and secretly a thief who tried to steal planets.

In New Mutants Annual #1 Lila tried to “steal” planet Earth but the next generation of X-Men intervened and she changed her criminal ways. Lila fell for Samuel Guthrie (Cannonball) and would have more adventures with the New Mutants and X-Men over the years.

Lila’s bodyguard Guido Carosella settled on Earth and became a member of two versions of X-Factor under the code-name Strong Guy.

Lila went rogue before – is she back to her planet stealing ways?

Cannonball is now an Avenger so this set the stage for a reunion between the New Mutants.

Watch of Lila’s return in Captain Marvel #9 featuring Carol on the cover in a homage to another rock and roll Space Oddity – David Bowie’s Aladdin Sane album cover.
