Marvel unleashed a tidal wave of updates on their upcoming movies at San Diego Comic Con.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige announced the Oscar winner who will play Captain Marvel, the villain of the next Spidey movie plus Black Panther, Guardians of the Galaxy (Star-Lord’s father!) news and unveiled the new Doctor Strange trailer. Here we go:
Spider-Man: Homecoming:
New Marvel concept art confirmed Spidey will face the Vulture in the reboot directed by Jon Watts.
A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his debut in Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinger.
Captain Marvel:
Oscar winner Brie Larson is officially Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel. This will be the first Marvel film with a female superhero in the lead. Carol Danvers is a pilot who gains super powers after exposure to a Kree weapon. After Ms. Marvel (her first code-name) evolved into Captain Marvel she inspired a legion of fans known as the Carol Corps.
Black Panther:
Chadwick Boseman, T’Challa the Black Panther himself, and director Ryan Coogler, welcomed new cast members to the stage: Michael B. Jordan, who will play villain Erik Killmonger; Lupita Nyong’o, will Nakia; and Danai Gurira will be Okoye. Killmonger is a native of Wakanda but exiled by T’Challa’s father after his father conspired with Ulysses Klaw (the smuggler seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron.)
Guardians of the Galaxy, Volume 2:
Sylvester Stallone is joining the cast. Kurt Russell is playing Ego, Star-Lord’s father. New character Mantis spent her life with Ego before meeting the Guardians. Benicio Del Toro will return as The Collector. Baby Groot will be back. (In comics Ego was the Living Planet, a sentient planet with vast mental powers who was been aligned with the Nova Corps and Elders of the Universe.) Director James Gunn arrived on stage to confirm filming has completed. (Note: The Studios announced Russell’s specific role in the event. Normally we could give you a spoiler alert.)
And behold the new trailer for Doctor Strange:
Benedict Cumberbatch is Marvel’s Master of the Mystic Arts, Chiwetel Ejiofor is his ally/rival Baron Mordo, Madds Mikkelsen is the villain, Benedict Wong is Wong and Tilda Swinton is The Ancient One.
Doctor Strange arrives November 4th.
