CAPTAIN AMERICA Sequel Affects AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

With Steve Rogers, Black Widow, Nick Fury and introducing Falcon –  the Captain America sequel may feel like Avengers sequel. Now we know the sequel will have an impact on the Avengers sequel and more of the Disney/Marvel line.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier will “set critical events in motion” that will lead directly into next year’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron, The Walt Disney Company CEO and Chairman Robert Iger according to The Wrap.
Iger also reportedly said that parts of the Captain America sequel’s plot will be reflected in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC.

What could happen in Cap setting critical events in motion?

From the trailer is appears there are traitors and even greater conspiracy within S.H.I.E.L.D. as Brock Rumlow (aka the agent who may become Crossbones) turns on Steve and Nick Fury is attacked and put in the hospital by the Winter Soldier.

Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker (a leader in a modern-day version of Hydra in comics) will appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

So here’s my theory – you may want to avoid or join in the speculation.

One of the biggest missing pieces of the Captain America sequel is the Red Skull. Hugo Weaving is not listed in the cast. In the comics the Red Skull is killed but his consciousness lives on in the body of a Russian KGB officer turned billionaire Aleksander Lukin. No official word that Lukin will be in the movie. Toby Jones will return as Nazi scientist Arnim Zola.

My theory is that high level S.H.I.E.L.D. director Alexander Pierce (to be played by Robert Redford) is actually the Red Skull or Arnim Zola. The Red Skull was pulled into another dimension by the Tesseract in the Captain America finale. Zola was last seen in custody of the U.S. military.

Pierce (aka Skull or Zola) and his minions (Crossbones) are destroying SH.I.E.L.D. from within and establishing a modern-day version of HYDRA that will take on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in future Avengers movies.

Again, just speculation but this could be a great way for the film to stay close but exact to comics canon and set up a major ongoing threat for future Marvel films and television series.

We’ll learn more in on Captain America: The Winter Soldier April 4.
