Black Widow is a woman with many roles but her past life comes back to haunt her in a brand new series hitting comic book shelves this week.
Natasha Romanova goes on a globe-trotting James Bond style adventure in a brand new series by writer Nathan Edmondson and artist Phil Noto.
“Overall this is a super hero spy thriller. Natasha’s past is dark, her intentions are noble, and her villains are ruthless. Beyond that, though, what’s so exciting about this series is the tone will shift issue to issue depending upon her mission or adventure, depending on her location and the challenge. On the whole, though, this book is in Natasha’s head, and that’s a place full of twists and turns and shadows, as we quickly discover. We are so freakin’ proud of this book, and it’s got a bit of everything, and plenty you won’t expect,” Edmonson tells Marvel.com.
Edmonson explains why he’s taking on the dark Avenger and what Natasha’s fans can expect.
“She’s the coolest. No kidding. A sexy, serious, lethal agent trying to atone for her bloody past. What Phil and I are bringing to her history, though, is something very fresh, very hot. This is not a book—well, perhaps until HAWKEYE—most readers [would] expect to find in the Marvel “main canon”—which is to say we were given some very cool liberties to make something special here.”
“The story theme and Natasha’s motives are both rooted in her past, but how it manifests in her present the reader all have to discover. This isn’t a Black Widow book like anyone’s ever seen before, which is a constant thrill for Phil and [me].”
Edmonson says Natasha will hit 4 continents in the first arc, interact with S.H.I.E.L.D. and take on new enemies like arms dealers, martial arts assassins and a “pissed-off Russian with an iron fist” plus Natasha’s attorney. Perhaps Isaac will help the Black Widow navigate her mission to atone for her red ledger?
